2008 Remodel - Week 9

Well, for the past 2-years we've been abusing our HELoC in the name of summer remodels. Last year was all about the house exterior. This year - not too surprisingly - the interior is getting a facelift. Here's what we've been living through so far!

First off, every room, except the kitchen, had everything crushed into that area's center, so the walls could be reached. New baseboard trim throughout the entire house was one of the biggies this time around...

Also high on our list of improvements was the replacement of all the old 60s-styled dark wood doors. Well, the contractors needed some place to paint the new raw doors, so they built a place on our back patio. All braced with only slim 2x2 boards, and wrapped by 2 layers of heavy plastic, they put this 'paint shed' together in half-a-day.

It really worked out well, since the doors all needed 3 coats of paint. They could get up to 9 doors in at any given time, too!

Last year we'd run a gas line in and swapped our fireplace over to a natural gas insert. Well, this year it was time to bring the rest of it up to snuf. In fact, most of the rest of the house was going to be receiving a similar treatment to the fireplace, getting lots of tile and paint work.

It was almost as though the contractors were trying to pull off a magic trick, veiling everything as they worked.

A week or so later and we had a new, larger hearth made of natural slate stone, and a proper mantel, with slate accents!

Also in the livingroom area, we had similar sorts of things done to the front door entryway. Here the old dark linoleum got covered up by tiles.

A couple of weeks later - as these things tend to go - we had the tiles done, new trim had been installed along the floor and around the door, and the walls had received a serious shot of color!

When we'd first moved in 8-years ago, we'd painted nearly everything white, attempting to 'freshen-up' the place - which it had dearly needed at the time. Well, after that stretch of time, you can get pretty bored with white...

Every room now - at least I think so - has some sort of accent color to it, if not downright dominating it! (The wood around the entryway to the kitchen has yet to be painted white, but it will.)

Although not completely put back together, the livingroom is finally starting to look like a room we can use again. And although the guys are well within 2-weeks of being completely done with their bit of the remodel, things won't quite be done. We have some window treatments coming in some time this month as well. We'd ordered them 2-months ago, and the manufacturer said they'd be ready to install 'mid-September'. I just hope the other work is done before the drapes get here!

Thanks for taking a look!
