Art and Energy

One of my last visits to the library had me spotting an interesting book in the creativity section: Kick-Ass Creativity: An Energy Makeover for Artists, Explorers, and Creative Professionals. I HAD to grab it, and it spent 6 weeks with me (renewed once) before I was forced to return it yesterday, after rushing through the last one-third (while I was at the night art market!) because my workload this past month. It does need an open mind (not a problem for me, I'm sure some would say) and has a lot of fun exercises, that even if you poo-pooed energyspeak would still be worth doing because they do force examination and clarity of what one wants out of their creative career. I sped through the meditations and energy explanations because hey, I didn't need to be convinced, but I still learned some really juicy and practical suggestions for stuck/not-so-inspired parts of creative freelancing. I even learned feng shui things I didn't know, and at last understood how the whole Morning Papers exercise from Julia Cameron's The Artist Way works, and it is now SO OBVIOUS from an energy standpoint: You write 3 pages of whatevers everyday before you get into work because it UNBLOCKS one's creative flow.

And now I also know why I bllllllaaaaaaaabbbb nonsense into my LJ when I have work to do but am feeling antsy: I have to unload (onto LJ) all the little bitty and bobby mental distractions hanging around me before I feel I'm giving my work my best. People, this epiphany and the book ARE BRILLIANT. If it sounds intriguing, just visit the site.

woo woo, books, art
