Is there was a way for me to recant a deleted comment? I should learn to read more closely posts that I comment on, because while I still think the first part of Elizabeth Moon's citizenship post was good (and, to show you how I think, I originally thought she was going to talk about corporations next, bad citizens that they are) but, and I do ( Read more... )

I'm glad to hear that not everyone has a rotten experience. I'm glad you were mainly able to be yourself. It's *good* that some people, at least, have your experience. It would be horrible if everyone still had the really awful experiences that shweta_narayan had, for instance.

Everyone's story *is* unique, even if there are broad patterns, a lot of the time.

I have been reading the various responses on the internet and not daring to make a comment because it's all too big for me to make an assessment on. I definitely reacted emotionally to what Moon said but I also see where she thought she was coming from on the matter of integration. What I thought was the underlying problem with her posting was that immigration, identity, race, culture and religion were muddied up together and one taken interchangeably for the other. She wasn't able to separate those issues. But frankly, I'm not sure if I can untangle them either, even when I've been brought up probably more culturally-aware than others. Especially not when I know I'm not exactly sure about how I feel on each of these subjects ( ... )
