Frak, In Valen's Name, Smeggin

It was Mum’s birthday yesterday (the 8th). I said: “What is this? Your 35th birthday?”. Add ten years to that and you have the true figure. If it makes her feel old, it makes me feel aptly mature (I suppose). Poor Mum. She already has grey hair and I know that often gets her down, but she has lupus and a host of other problems (I’m not exaggerating - there’s a list). It’s all just… disheartening. As I get older and my parents’ health deteriorates, it will be my responsibility and my duty to them to be there and care. I’m not saying I wouldn’t do it, but there’s the weight of that on my shoulders. I know they don’t want to be dependent on anyone, but it’s not going to come down to a matter of choice. It just makes me contemplate.

Okay, on a lighter note, Mum received two dozen roses in a terracotta pot. It would have cost a pretty penny. Suffice to say, they’re beautiful - and they reinforce my disbelief in flowers. They die so quickly, so why pay all that money for something with such a short lifespan?

I once again have to praise Battlestar Galactica! I love it! I love how they made Starbuck female and created another OTP. I had my doubts, I know, but I was just being a ruddy old BSG fan. I love, love, love it! I’ve also promised myself that I’ll add “frak” to my vocabulary. However, adding “In Valen’s Name” to my vocab never worked out particularly well. “Smeggin” is another good word. Who wants to guess my media references? ;)

So, I think I’ll have a bit more sleep later on. Two hours of good TV tonight and then I’ll try to do… something productive. Me being me I started to look at Spock/Saavik fan fiction. TOS fan fiction is indeed strange. It’s an anomaly. You have so many people quoting the fan magazines where their stories have been featured. It would be an interesting social study if the people didn’t act a little bit bizarre. I like the camaraderie of Kirk/Spock/McCoy, but I never dug into that Kirk and Spock as secret lovers theory. William Shatner is, of course, too busy talking about saving the ST sets during a fire on “Search for Spock”. One would think he doused the flames purely with his own spit. I do respect him as an actor and he made me laugh in “The Practice”!

Spock/Saavik is good in its own way. Who prefers the second Saavik over the first? As Carr said to me, Kirstie Alley doesn’t suit the role. We *all* know they had Vulcan sex on Genesis, c’mon. I should investigate all that mirror universe stuff. I bet ST books could fill a hall.

And that’s it for me today ;).
