Ficbit: Dobby, gen. Or Dobby/Electricity.

It got a bit out of hand so I cut it short, but I think I might take it a little further some other time. It was really the title that did it for me. :)

Dobby loves! Dobby loves. So many things for Dobby to love, as he rushes about the spic-span kitchen to make Harry Potter’s coffee and muffins. And eggs and toast and orange juice, and potatoes and ham and soup and bread, bread baking in Sharp, stew boiling on Gelco’s fireback. Dobby loves to make food for Harry Potter more than he loves to clean and wash and sing and dance when nobody is watching. Nobody leaves Harry Potter alone anymore, and Dobby does not leave Harry Potter with nobody.

All day the Muggle bell is ringing and ringing and Dobby is answering the door for magical masters and mistresses. Hermione Granger is coming from work every day to see how Harry Potter is. She is giving Dobby hats and cloaks when she sees Harry Potter finally eating and drinking, saying, “It’s your food, Dobby, he couldn’t resist it forever!” Forever! Dobby is taking the cloaks to the second bedroom, Harry Potter’s old room, and standing before the mirror in Dobby’s free time, swishing and swashbuckling - Dobby loves to swashbuckle like the puppets on Harry Potter’s Muggle stage inside LG, where they are acting and dancing and singing and squealing like on Lucius Malfoy’s ballroom dais. Dobby kept that ballroom clean as sparkles and he keeps Harry Potter’s LG of glass clean as two squeaks.

“It’s called electricity,” Hermione Granger is telling him when they first come to Harry Potter’s old house, where Harry Potter’s uncle and aunt and pig-cousin live no more because they are all moving across the sea. Dobby knows only horrible persons move across seas, going to places like Azkaban. “It’s like Muggle magic. Of course, it’s both good and evil depending on how you use it.”

She is smiling sadly when she tells Dobby this. Dobby loves Hermione Granger most after Harry Potter. She is showing him how to use Muggle magic, giving Dobby lots and lots more words - oven, toaster, juicer, tubelight, bulb, fan, air-conditioner, central heating, a name for LG that Harry Potter calls teevee, Compaq and Intel. Dobby reads all the strange electric elves’ names on them, names just like folk are giving to children, Kenwood and GE and Phillips. Dobby is still taking the names to bed at night when Harry Potter is asleep and practicing how they roll off Dobby’s tongue. Dobby decides that if he is ever going back to Hogwarts and finding Merly and having a little girl, he is calling her Sony.

In the dark, when Harry Potter is still sometimes crying out names of his friends, Ron and Hagrid and Cho and
Sirius, Dobby is holding his mouth shut and thinking of Sony and Philips and LG. Dobby is knowing that they are not house-elves and wizards, but they are better than ghosts.

Has anyone else noticed how MS Word protests loudly at Dobby PoVs?
