Last evening I was working an event for a humanitarian organization and I found out something about myself: I really enjoyed mingling and talking to the refugees that were there. It was awesome and they are absolutely wonderful. It was also pretty cool to mingle with the dignitaries and a celebrity and take pictures of the event. However, I found that I was more excited about chatting with the refugees then paying much mind to the luminaries.
I think that what I really enjoyed was being in the thick of things. I was on-scene or in other words 'in the field'. I really think that I am the type of person that needs to feel on the front lines so-to-speak or, at least, as if I'm directly helping someone and working with those on the receiving end.
This event was really posh and so beautifully set up. It was so nice that I sometimes wondered if it was not missing the point of the event, but I don't have go into that.
Oh, and I had two Nepalese teach me a few words in their native tongue. The first word they taught me was namaste! Ha! They all laughed at me when I busted out the word before they finished writing it!
Good times, good times.
