Dances of Vice

Feb 12, 2008 14:24

On Saturday I had a wonderful time at the Dances of Vice Victorian Ball. It was a two day event, festival more aptly, and I went to part two. It was fantastic. Glorious, even. Despite the fact that I missed my train and left my over-skirt (which I made) at home, I made it there in good spirits. Everyone was so glamorously dressed up that it was hard not to find something on a person to gawk at. Creativity run rampant. For a very agreeable sum, we all got to sample a variety of fantastic performances, my favourite having to be The Deadfly Ensemble (yep, same lead as Cinema Strange, different project). However, I think I had the most fun just looking at people and their outfits. I took pictures, but alas, they did not come out well. My outfit, was not nearly as dressy as many people who were there had on, which was refreshing, I must say, because there is some sorely missing enforcement of dress code rules at many clubs. Personally, I am not a big enthusiast of the roaring twenties (and quite ignorant of the music, I will admit) so the music was simply not to my taste, although it was fun! It was a good experience.

*Warning: Massive dose of self-absorption and vanity follows:
Portrait *after* the event. As you can see, my make-up did not hold up (at all! Boo!) and the back of my
hair, which I curled, was straight like a ruler after an hour. Will need a clip-on hair piece again, I will.
I'm thinking corkscrews perhaps as long as it is not a full wig. And it's back to MAC make-up,
I guess (the liner was MAC on the top and it was the only thing that held up nicely). HOWEVER,
I did get to wear my lovely new necklace.

Although my outfit was not extra-ordinary, this photo does it even less justice thanks
to my craptastic camera. Ah, well. I wish I took a photo before i left, especially of my
hair, which I was proud of at first because I pinned part of it back with the sides
twisted and clipped by two faux-victorian clippy things. That bit I curled while spraying
back my fringe with an enormous amount of hairspray (my contribution to destroying
the ozone layer). The fringe had a little curl to it on the side. It was the first event in a
long time that I did not need my clip-on because my hair was as long as it was!
All that work went to hell after an hour.
No worries, I still had fun though
