Summary
: An odd melody, an odd van and cookies. Doojoon was bored until
he met a certain boy and his life would never be the same. Notes : Yep, lame
summary I know. I don’t know where I’m going with this yet but I
hope you’ll like it. The title (originally Medecine cake) comes
from a french band’s album, said group no longer exists and I
started writing it a while ago.
MEDICINE
CAKE (1/?)
A
soft knock on the door followed by a crack.
‘Mr
Yoon?’ a young man stepped in the room. ‘I’m inspector Ahn, we
spoke on the phone’ he said and bowed to the men sitting in the
room.
‘Please
come in’ one of them answered.
‘Thank
you for giving me some of your time’ the inspector added. The older
man just shook his head.
‘That’s
something I should have done years ago’ he smiled faintly. The
young inspector was glancing nervously around him, he didn’t know
where he was supposed to start as he wanted to preserve two already
tired men. They both looked older than they were, Mr Yoon told him on
the phone he was 46 but his face had something saying “Son, I’ve
seen it all” and it was not in a good way. He was staring blankly
in the inspector’s direction and the younger felt a shiver in the
back of his neck, that man was blind. His right eye being dark blue
instead of the regular shade of white told him this wasn’t
something Nature did. The other man’s eyes were locked on the
window the whole time, but one could say he wasn’t paying attention
to whatever happened outside cause he didn’t even blink once. He
was pale and frail, fear seemed to emanate from him as he was holding
the blind man’s hand that rested on his lap.
‘Mr
Yoon, are you... ready?’ the young inspector asked hesitantly.
‘What
do you want to know, I’ll tell you everything’ he answered.
‘I’ll
record, just tell me the whole thing, everything you remember’
another sad smile crossed Mr Yoon’s face.
‘I
remember every detail Mr Ahn’ and his companion winced ‘shall I
start now?’ he demanded and the inspector was about to speak when
the pale man gave a squeeze of the hand, which was the only answer Mr
Yoon needed.
A warm breeze was blowing, ruffling a
tall man’s black hair gently. He was wandering aimlessly, seeing
without looking, unaware of his surroundings. All he knew was that he
was bored, each day resembled the previous one and his life was
empty. And so was the street. He snapped out of his thoughts when he
heard a faint tune, a sweet melody which was getting closer and
closer. His eyes were searching for its source when he realized he
was walking towards a dark van. A picture of an old man holding a
plate full of cookies was painted on it, “Dr. Jones’ Medicine
Cakes” read the inscription below. An old-fashioned speaker placed
on top of it was spreading the music, it was nice to the ear and the
curious man stepped closer. The van parked along the sidewalk looked
like an ice cream van for it was opened on its side revealing a
counter on which rested boxes of cookies. Suddenly a head stuck out
of the van, eying the passer-by carefully.
‘Hello there’ the man in the van
said gaining the other’s interest.
‘What is it you’re selling?’ he
asked scanning the van attentively and earning a smirk from the
other, not that he noticed.
‘Something new but those cookies
aren’t for sale’ he handed a plate out of the van. The once
curious man arched a brow.
‘Oh wow, cookies. Well, have a nice
day’ he said and resumed his walking a bit disappointed.
‘No, but wait!’ the other called
and said something barely audible that sounded like ‘you’d better
give me a hand with that’ and the curiosity always wins when you’re
bored. The dark haired male stopped and turned around facing the van
again. Another man had joined the previous one, he was smaller and a
lot thinner, his brown orbs staring down at the stranger while he was
leaning uncomfortably against the counter. ‘those are medicine
cakes, they can heal everything’ the first man added with a wink.
‘Except for boredom I’m healthy,
thanks’ brown eyes still staring at him were now joined by a shy
smile. He stepped closer. ‘About those cookies I don’t know, but
that smile definitely helps’ all his attention was on the shorter
male who bit his lip at the comment making the other chuckle.
‘I see... I guess I’ll let Seobbie
tell you about those then’ the former said shoving the plate in his
friend’s hands. The said man shook his head refusing to take it.
‘Yoseob!’ the other hissed. A shaking hand took hold of the
plate.
‘Wanting me to eat it?’ the man on
the sidewalk asked arching a brow playfully and as the other
disappeared from the counter, Yoseob leaned over it, close to him.
‘You should go’ he whispered.
‘What about a dinner, and then I’ll
reconsider’ the other asked.
‘I don’t even know you, why don’t
you leave already?’ he was still murmuring.
‘Well, Yoseob, I’m Doojoon’ he
answered with a smile holding his hand to him.
‘Ah, our little Seobbie is so shy,
why don’t you eat one of his cookies first?’ the other returned
and was pinching Yoseob cheeks painfully, but Doojoon was unaware of
that.
‘Alright’ he grabbed one cookie
and shoved it into his mouth. His smile disappeared when he noticed
the sad look in Yoseob’s eyes and then everything went black.
A/N : It’s so good to be back and I
hope my writings haven’t suffered from this hiatus. Please tell me
if you feel like reading more about this story or if I should just
drop it and write something else.
