Taking chances

The front door of the cafe opens making the little bell ring. Doojoon lifts his gaze to the entrance and a wide smile appears on his face as he waves his hand to the blond’s attention. Yoseob smiles back and makes his way to the table. He leans forward and pecks the older on the lips before settling down across from him.

‘Hey’ Doojoon greets smiling fondly.

‘I’m late, sorry’ Yoseob says quietly biting on his lip. Doojoon chuckles, he’s always amazed about how cute his Seobbie can be. Yes, his Seobbie. Doojoon isn’t afraid of labels and even if he usually doesn’t like to sound cheesy, he does like pet names.

‘A happy Junhyung can be a real pain, he won’t stop nagging’ the little blond adds.

And he goes on and on rambling about this and that. Oh, don’t misunderstand, Doojoon genuinely likes it. His elbow on the table with his left hand supporting his chin, he just stares at his boyfriend with a smile that never fades. It takes some time before the younger notices the stare and he abruptly stops in his words.

‘What?’

‘Nothing’ and indeed the smile never leaves his lips.

‘Are you even listening?’ Yoseob asks tilting his head on a side and fails to sound annoyed.

‘It was something about Junhyung, wasn’t it?’ Doojoon retaliates as he doesn’t even try to sound jealous.

‘Why? Jealous?’ Yoseob answers with a playful smile.

Doojoon’s hands fall flat against the table as he leans closer to the other. Their faces inches apart.

‘I should be. You still don’t want to tell ‘em’ he says defiantly.

‘Tell Kikwang and he’ll make us treat him diner for the rest of our lives as a thank you gift’ Yoseob says back and they both burst into laughter.

‘True’ Doojoon agrees in between laughs. The kid actually believes he is the one who finally introduced Yoseob to Doojoon a few months ago. Little does he know that destiny has his own way as the two men met an hour earlier without any help.

‘Should we get going?’ Yoseob asks a moment after they both drank their coffee. Doojoon nods and leaves money on their table before they exit the shop.

They spend the whole day enjoying the other’s company, wandering in the streets and occasionally making a stop in a random shop. On days like this Doojoon feels like a carefree child for his mind only revolves around the sun-like boy gripping his hand. On days like this he’s reminded that life can be that easy and that sometimes, even only a little few times, putting your heart on strike is worthy. All is about taking chances. At the thought, his throat turns dry.

As he licks what remains of his ice cream on his thumb Yoseob stops in his track again.

‘Doojoonie... You’ve been staring at me the whole day’ he whines but the other is silent.

‘What is it?’ Yoseob insists with a pout.

Doojoon remains silent still staring for a little while but then he smiles.

‘I love you’

Yoseob’s shoulders tense as the boy blushes faintly. Doojoon can’t hear the boy’s heart loudly pounding in his ears. He can’t feel the sudden weakness in Yoseob’s knees. He barely notices the tears gathering in his eyes and little does he know that they are tears of joy and gratefulness. Of pride. They both know what those words mean to each other. They know it too well but all of a sudden the threatening shadow of the past seems to be gone.

Yoseob reaches for his cell phone, dials a number and brings it to his ear in a blink of an eye. Doojoon is suddenly puzzled and a bit afraid of Yoseob’s reaction.

‘Seobbie I-’ but Yoseob stops him with a hand on his mouth as he speaks on the phone.

‘Ah, Kikwangie. Yes. Well, let’s meet tonight. Yes, the six of us. There’s something I need to tell’ and soon after he hangs up.

There’s silence again but this time Doojoon’s smile returns as he wraps his arms around the shorter male. Yoseob leans in and rests his head on the shoulder he’s offered. Under his palm he can feel Doojoon’s heart beating fast.

‘Doojoonie’

‘Hm?’

‘I love you too’

Yes, taking chances can lift you up where you belong.

A/N: Just a question, does “put one’s heart on strike” even mean something? It came to me naturally but as I re read it, it feels weird... Still I hope you understood what I meant! Sometimes I really sucks with words I’m sorry T.T
