WELCOME TO LEEDS (LOL, COME) Or: The Extremely Faily Adventures of Marnie and Sarah

Jun 07, 2009 08:27

Ok, so. Went up to Leeds this weekend to meet leandergasped(Sarah). This was the first time we'd met, so I was all nervous and whatnot, so I got up at like 6 in the morning and was at the station by 8. The train left at 9 and I got in around 10:30, and I walked through the terminal until I got to the WHSmith, where Sarah was waiting. And this happened.

Me: Hi!
Sarah: Hey! Hi! *hugs*
(We had a little getting-to-know-you chat, and then this):

Sarah: There's people throwing themselves off a building over there!
Me: Awesome! Let's go!

It was some Army demonstration thingie, trying to get people to enlist, but it was actually pretty cool. And we walked around downtown, just going to shops and whatnot, and I found Merlin Volume 1 for £6.74 at Head, and Volume 2 was like £12-something at HMV. We just wandered for awhile, then went to Wok On for lunch, where we got the awesome friend discount. And let me tell you, the food is SO GOOD. We literally sat and talked for like 2 hours, and then we got up and did more window-shopping.

We went to Harvey Nichols and made fun of all the rich people clothes and their weird wicker monkey with an orange rectum (don't ask, I still don't know). We ended up with a bag of chocolate on couches at Starbucks, and decided we had kinda run out of ideas. So of course we went to Sarah's. Her mum got home around the same time we did and wanted to clean, so we went to Costa for an hour or so. And this happened:

Me: (something about gay porn)
Sarah: Ahaha I know! (gayporngayporngayporn)
Random Stranger Guy: Hello, mayisitwithyou?
Me: Huh?
Sarah: Excuse me?
Random Stranger Guy: *stutters* C-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-can I have a cup of tea with you?
Sarah: Sure, sit down.

AND THEN WE REALIZED THAT WE HAD TO TALK ABOUT RL THINGS, BECAUSE PORN IS NOT ALWAYS APPROPRIATE. AND IT WAS GREAT, BECAUSE WE WERE BOTH LIKE o.O WHILE WE THOUGHT OF SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE THINGS TO DISCUSS (HARDER THAN YOU'D THINK).

After a little bit, it was safe to go back to the house, so we watched Episode 11 (Labyrinth of Gedref) on TV. And it was great because every 5 minutes I was like "is that really red? Is that...wow, that has embroidery? Oh look, facial expressions. N'aww."

After the episode we watched BBC One for awhile, just the random stuff they had on, and we ended up watching the first episode of the new show with Graham Norton. We got enthralled and about 8 we realized we should check the train timetable. And the last one to Grantham leaves at 8:40, so we took a cab and rushed to the station, and said kind of a hurried goodbye. Only to be reunited when I was told that the 8:40 only runs Monday-Friday, and on Saturday the last train is at 8:10. So of course I was stranded in Leeds.

Sarah and her mum were so nice, they let me stay over and Sarah cooked me beans on toast with Marmite (yum). And then she poured the apple juice. And homg you guys, it wasn't clear.

Me: Is this...uh... *pokes at glass suspiciously, sniffs it*
Sarah: LOL, Americans. It's pressed!
Me: Ah, that's... (what does that mean?) *drinks* Ok, tastes normal. It's safe.

We ate dinner and watched Michael McIntyre's Road Show on TV, and then decided to watch a DVD because freaking NOTHING was on. We went through the video cupboard and it was pretty much decided what we were going to watch when I went "Dragonheart? What's that?"

So we watched it, at like 11 at night, and by the end we were both so tired that we were just laughing for no reason at random intervals. We decided to call it quits after the movie ended, which was supposed to be half an hour. It turned out to be 45 minutes because apparently her DVD player likes to chew on the discs and make angry, scary grinding noises instead of playing.

I had a little set-up on the couch with a comforter and a pillow, and I was really, really tired and comfortable. So I passed out and slept for like 7 hours straight, which I never do. And in the morning we chatted and left for the station around 10. We had to take a bus, which I am not familiar with at all, so this happened:

Sarah: *places correct change on the counter* I'd like a day-rider, please.
Bus Driver: Ok *prints ticket*
Me: *slams down random handful of change* I want a ticket...

SARAH, BLESS YOU FOR BEING SO PATIENT WITH MY RETARDED AMERICAN WAYS. I COULDN'T HAVE MADE IT WITHOUT YOU.

I think this weekend ties with the Expo as the best weekend in recent memory. I had such a great time, there was awesome food, and there was much discussion of the future Team James and their malnutrition due to poor sandwich-packing. And after a fairly uninteresting train ride back, here I am, in Grantham. Ugh. Well, there's always next time! :D

bradley is adorable, travel, team james sandwich fail
