Beware: There are two parts to this post - work & upcoming events.
Work
Works been work, that's not a biggie. The two 'major' things that have happened recently is I *finally* :::grumbles::: finished the training documents for another section. Now I just have to take the exam on Tuesday, give a lab presentation, go through another panel review, and finish all of the follow-up items ::: rolls-eyes::: and then I can go on to the :::gasp::: final section. (networking, I saved it for last because networking terminology gives me a headache : P )
The other 'minor/major' thing is something that happened today: I was put on a project that had a deadline in about 2hrs30minutes (was put on it at 2:30, deadline was 5pm). No biggie there, I got all of my stuff done in plenty of time and quite a few defects submitted (I believe 8). Now, here's the kicker: one of the testers working on the same thing left at 4:30 - without getting most of his defects ready for submission (that 5pm deadline was for defect submission and completion) so as a favor to this tester and the test lead me and another tester looked at all of his (the guy leaving at 4:30's) defects and got them ready. Well, we found that at least 4 of his were duplicates of defects we had already submitted. I tell her about the first 3 and that I'm going to mark them block-duplicate. The TL said, ok; btw who were they dupes of? I said of tester a (who's fairly new and probably needed the points); TL says fine. Then we get to the fourth defect and I mention it was a duplicate of a defect of mine. Suddenly the TL says - whose came first? I answered "mine, and it's already been approved by you" (defects usually get approved by the TL right before they get submitted to the client) she then responded "well, I'd prefer him to have the point" and I replied "even though mine was in long before his and is already approved?" she said "Yes, I still want him to have the point" >_< My point! I finally gave up and let the point go, I ended up copying my whole defect into his (since his didn't make a lot of sense and wasn't complete yet) and submitted my original defect under his name. I then blocked mine as a duplicate and cleared his... -_- My point, gone and given to him for no good reason that I can think of... I mean, I'm all for helping out people to get the points they need and even readying other people's defects, but this was a bit much! He basically left when there was a tight deadline and things still needed to get done and I ended up paying for it with a point that matters on a weekly and monthly basis with testers at my company... If the company gets to a good point and I actually lose a bonus because of this I'm going to be seriously pissed off :::growls:::
Upcoming events
Going to a toastmasters (not only JETS) speech contest tomorrow~ 2 hours of table topics and speeches in English. Hopefully the topics are interesting for all of them ^^; at the very least several people from JETS will be there~
I'll be in Japan in a little over a week! I'm currently working out with Mackey which of the three places we've found online we're going to go to for the Maiko/Geiko dress-up (Yoko doesn't have a computer so she can't really put in her two cents : P ). I plan to actually visit (and not just talk on the phone ^^; ) my first-semester host family while I'm there~ One strange thing, both my homestay mother (to LA) and Mackey (to Taiwan) have managed to have overseas trips planned while I'm visiting ;_; Luckily I can still get together with both of them, but it lets me know that this timing might not be so great next year. Soon Yoko and Mackey will know their days off (should be sometime next week) so I'll be able to formulate a more structured plan of what I'm doing when ^_^v
Lastly, I actually unpacked things last week! Not everything, but I made a good-sized dent (4 boxes). I also bought two new bookcases which will be a great help with my media (DVDs and books mainly) and went to the container store and bought some drawers so that I can unpack even more things this weekend~ v^.^v Next thing to find and buy: cargo pants (none at Old Navy that were full leg -_-)
