I need to have a feel for where the plot is going for me to nod and say 'Yes, I'm positive I'm gonna like this,
Well yes, me too. Many books I really like I feel that way about (there's only about 3 books I've read where I knew I was going to like them within the first page, and they're not even necessarily my favorite books. Incidentally, one of them was Catcher in the Rye). But SRB does have a habit of delivering.
'warm as a whispered secret', while it's very distinct Maya voice, somehow sounded kind of off there.

the mother is coming off as irresponsible and selfish
Sarah did say many think her mother is one of the villains. It's alright if she's not supposed to be sympathetic to me. (For instance, I like Narcissa, though I wouldn't wanna hang out and get sandwiches or anything.)
I still dunno what to think of Mae
Feel the same, but of course, there's only so much room in a first chapter.
I just haven't fallen in love yet, that's all.
I think that is very understandable! I think I've fallen in love with the promise of it more than anything else. I don't know what's going to happen, but I want it to happen!
lol, now that I think about it, it's true that most books I read take one or two chapters before I know I love it... With a couple exceptions of course. (Unless the very premise itself has snagged me, then that's a totally different story)
Hmm, mother as villain... Okay that's better. Maybe I've been watching too much kdrama, but I kind of thought that she'd be the type to mess things up for the family and sit there in the corner while the kids clean up her mess. I'm down with villains and pro-active roles. (Yes, I like Narcissa too! Honestly, if the characters fascinate me, no matter how selfish and terrible they are, I'm drawn in.)
Yeah, I'm really hoping I like either Mae or the mother. Just 'cause I'm tired of reading stories where I don't like the female characters.
lol well I'm really really happy that a hp fanfic writer I love and respect is getting published, and will obviously buy it hardcover 'cause I'm a compulsive buyer that way, and I'm hoping I'll like it. XDD I'm just waiting for that 'in love' moment to happen so yes... Is it June yet? XDD
