Jackie: Wrong, wrong, wrong song. I don’t know what everyone was clapping for. That bored the heck out of me.
Ricky: Much better performance, beautiful voice, but I fear that song wasn’t very memorable. And for someone I don’t remember seeing before, that’s a problem.
Alexis: Yikes, what was that stuff in the bridge? Other than that, really nice vocal. I’m afraid the song might be a bit ‘old’ though.
Brent: So pretty. But goodness, what the crap was that?
Stevie: I like her, but TRAINWRECK.
Noop!Dog: I really liked that; I like his voice more each time I hear it. I didn’t catch the pitch issue.
Casey: YIKES! There was very little there to like. Her voice was weak and the pitch was everwhere. She seems like a nice girl, so that’s a shame.
NB: Package artist-totally unsubtle code for physically attractive?
Michael: I like him a lot, so it’s hard to admit that he picked the wrong, wrong song. That song is hard to sing, and it’s just not right for him. He almost half spoke it. Weird, weird choice. They’re right that this wasn’t a good performance.
Ann Marie: A few vocal bobbles, but that wasn’t the disaster I thought it would be when I heard the song choice. There are two kinds of singers on tonight: singers who fill the room and singers dwarfed by it. Ann Marie filled the room. Sure, the song is bigger than her, but she wasn’t dwarfed by it. And she’s right that the more modern girly songs are not as good.
NB: If Idol thinks old songs are irrelevant, stop letting contestants use them. Simple.
Stephen: PITCH. My EARS. For the LOVE. Paula wins the day with: “I love that you remembered the lyrics.”
Tatiana: You’re a bad person. Just so we’re clear. And picking Whitney? You’re a moron.
Danny: The song was a mistake, for sure. But the voice was great. I really love his voice, more and more.
Wow, there were a lot of awful and mediocre performances. Almost nothing stood out in a good way. But I’ll consider the night a success so long as I never have to see Tatiana again.
Best tonight: Danny, Anoop, Alexis.
