Neville opened the window of his greenhouse office to let Marlow's owl in. The hairs on his skin stood up, a mixture from the rush of cold air and thinking of Marlow thinking about him.

But, once he realized what was in the package, he pushed that all away for a moment. He took the necessary precautions to keep the Dittany as fresh and healthy as possible for him to work with later. He was so certain this was all that was his ointment needed.

Then, he opened the letter, and a swarm of different feelings came over him as his eyes traced her handwriting. What in the world was going on with him?!

With a slightly shaky hand, he returned the following letter with her owl.

Marlow,
Don't be sorry-there's no reason to be sorry. Uh, for anything? Well, maybe a little sorry, this is WEIRD...

Brutus came tapping on her office window not much later than when she had sent the Dittany off, a letter in his talons. She gave Brutus a little scratch under his neck, offering him her leftover scone from breakfast before tucking herself into her chair and opening the parchment.

She smiled, hearing his uneven tone in her head as she read his words.

Neville hadn't been expecting a response, his stomach went into knots.

NevilleAs Neville watched Brutus fly away again, he stood by the window, letting the cool breeze flow over him to calm his nerves. He had to steady himself and get his mind in a place to do his work. He took several deep breaths, then closed the windows and walked away when he heard little squeals of displeasure from his plants ( ... )

He quickly, and carefully as he could, for his hands were shaking from the pain, he removed the container of the ointment from the pocket in his robe. He gingerly rubbed the salve on his blistered, bleeding skin. His eyes went directly to the clock hanging above the entrance, and gritted his teeth against the pain. The seconds seemed like an eternity, but had to hold onto his consciousness ( ... )
