Adam is devouring the new Macross Frontier anime. I've watched a couple episodes, and it's okay - I wish the plot was more interesting/had more going on. The characters and the story lack substance. My favourite part about Macross is Ranka Lee. I love her impossible-to-pronounce-in-Japanese name ("Lanka Ree"!), her uncanny similarity to Yotsuba, her somehow palatable Loli- ness, her jet-backpack and her little phone-pet-thing.
Macross Frontier has definitely succeeded in terms of marketability. The theme song is awesome, and there's usually a new song every episode sung by either Ranka or Sheryl (another unpronounceable name - "Sheliru"). The animation is pretty to look at and would make some nice posters. The characters are cute and/or sexy and would be fun to smoosh together in yaoi or to have little figurines of on your desk. I just wish it had some more behind it, instead of being all surface.
