OUT, VILE JELLY

Oh yeah, I forgot to post about this, but it deserves its own entry anyway. On Wednesday I bought the new Spike title IDW put out called Spike: Old Wounds.

Under no circumstances should you buy this comic, unless you happen to like wasting ten dollars on shitty writing and even shittier art.

They have Spike saying stupid British expressions he never says. Painfully unfunny, boring dialogue. Tie-ins to one of the worst episodes of Angel season 5.

And the art. AUGH. If I had a scanner, I could show you what I mean, but I don't. Basically they took existing pictures of the actors' faces and traced them for all the pictures in the book (and the ones they didn't, you can tell because they look NOTHING LIKE THEM). So the faces look realistic in a fucked-up, 2D photocopied way. And then their bodies and the backgrounds look like they were drawn by a ten-year-old with cerebral palsy. So, pastede on heds on malformed, mismatching bodies. Then they found some blind guy to do all the colouring. "Don't bother with light sources, or following the style of the artist or anything," they told the blind guy. "Just colour randomly, and make sure to make the 2D outlined faces look really, really awful." Luckily, blind guy followed their instructions exactly.

I am so angry that I bought this comic and it's sort of part of the Buffyverse now, that I'm willing to mail it to anyone on my flist (first come, first serve. HEH HEH HEH) if you email me your address to marlo at livejournal dot com. The only way to endure the misery is to spread it.
