So we start last Friday. I left for Silver Kindom (hereafter known as SWOT) really late and
grinning_fox and company left really late and somehow we arrived at exactly the same time. By tacit agreement, K and I let Jaime set up the whole tent for us and we just put up the stock. We goofed off for quite a while until it was time to set up the group BBQ, when the group decided we wanted pizza instead of hot dogs. We piled into a few cars, found a local pizza joint and invaded. As per tradition, we scared the locals with our antics. It was insane, depraved, and the pizza was damn good. Chris will eat anything and Pyrate is insane.
For the first time ever, sleeping outdoors, I was completely comfortable. I have no idea why. I think I was just dead tired and K was just dead tired and it wasn't too cold and it wasn't too hot and there was enough room in the bed and there were enough blankets and I had the right pillow. I just don't know, but I know but we got a damn nice sleep the pair of us. Sadly, we went to bed at 0200 because we were having too much fun chatting up with friends outside the tent. I would have loved more of that sleep.
Saturday was ok. We got a lot of work done, which was the point of the weekend. Sold a few things, which was bonus, and generally caught up. I mean really, it had been almost 2 weeks since we had seen each other. I think we're going to set a record of not being out of each other's company more than 3 weeks at a time; we're heading into year 2 or 3 like this. Did I mention that it rained off and on (mostly on) all day?
Saturday night, we met up with Dawn and went out for dinner. The plan had been for dinner and a movie, but when we got to the movie theater, it was 9pm and the movie wasn't starting for over an hour. None of us wanted to stay up that late, especially Dawn, who had to drive home in the pouring rain. So we headed next door to Target. K and I keep talking about going to Target and we never go so we went. Whilst walking around the store, some random guy came up and asked, rather abruptly, what play we were in. Did I mention that we didn't bother changing back into civvies? K said, "yes," and before I could stop myself, I told him we were in a production of The Pirates of Penzance. Dawn added that it was at Ye Olde Commons in Charlton. Couldn't stop laughing.
We got back to site and it was ankle deep water, as per usual there when it rains, and the temperature was just north of frigid. K suggested we set up the bed in the tavern, but the lights never go out and the LARPers play in there until dawn. Bad choice. I remembered I have an app on my phone to find the local Holiday Inn, and I have points for a free night. Ten minutes later, we were on our way to a free, dry, warm room 5 miles from site. We slept like shit. Apparently I now talk in my sleep. I thought I asked K a couple questions before we fell asleep. Instead, I woke up once an hour or so asked her a question, got an answer and fell back to sleep. Mostly, because I wasn't really asleep. So, technically, neither K nor I slept all night.
Sunday was rather uneventful, if exhausted . It rained, we planned an outing, stuff sold, stuff got made, everything got divided and we bugged out. I think we even got home at the same time.
Next post, we'll pick up at Tuesday.
