And as I said I would, I worked my butt off on Friday and drove like I was in the Grand Prix. See, when I punched up the address, I realized if I pushed a bit, I could be there in time for
grinning_fox 's show of her lighting design. So I did and I did and got to spend some quality time with Tim watching the show and appreciating Kat's art. Life was good. We were invited to the cast party after the show where I taught Tim how to feed Kat strawberries and keep his fingers. He still has all ten, so I must have been a good teacher. We stayed up late, we laughed, we went to bed.
I got up at 5, told off Beryl the cat, showered and made it to faire site exactly on time. Where we realized that the extra tent stakes were in Vermont. Oops. We jerry-rigged the big new tent up with parts from the wee new tent. Worked with the guys who kept calling me boss and got everything together. Saw nearly nary a sole all day but still generally had fun (pictures soon on FaceBook).
fallenlibrarian and
saurval came for a visit since
fallenlibrarian is watching the shop on her own with just Chad next weekend. At the end of the night, the closing horn tooted and it seemed to steal nearly all the energy out of me. I ended up sleeping on site in the frigid air covered in several blankets. All was well when I remembered to toss some of my cloak over my head. Finally warm, I slept like log until later than usual and still early.
Sunday, Kat arrived after dropping Tim off at the airport, with the extra stakes just before we opened. I had warned the guys and sure enough it happened. When there's just me and Kat in the booth, we take turns going on wander. All those people in the booth meant that we could both wander. Together. So, first and second and command took off. For hours. The guys remembered we had our cell phones and they had our numbers so we handled questions on the fly, checked in once and took off again. Hell, we even left together when it was time for us to both go home. Kat and I both remarked that she hadn't left faire during faire hours since she was a kid. It was kinda fun.
Now, I just need to unpack the car. I think I stuffed an apartment's worth of things into it, and I don't relish pulling all of it out >.>
