Mackinac Bridge, Lake Huron side

My digs, on the left

The community kitchen (blue addition) and girls' rooms

The recreational activity of choice/necessity.

The community room, and bike rack

My view most of the time at work, atop the Overlook.

Another view on the Overlook to Mackinac Island.  Just above the sail boat is the Grand Hotel, and the white structure at the right edge is Fort Mackinac

Large-flowered Trillium.  These blanket the forest floor.

See?

This would turn out blurry.  Anyway, it's a mutated trillium.  Looks like a carnation.

Nodding Trillium, blurry again

Brandon/Rusty demonstrating hueing a log.

Karl demonstrating the "more modern" water-powered sawmill.

Some good wild eats.

Ferns and the sawmill.

Downstream to the mill.

The mill pond.

Mill sluice

Logs and barn

Yellow Downy Violet

Jack-in-the-Pulpit

Jack-in-the-Pulpit close-up.  That's a lot of hy-phens.

[White or Red] Baneberry

I spy with my little eye.... a water snake.

Brandon demonstrating the saw pit for some fools not pictured; Gary and Karl searching for morels in the background (slow day, per usual...)

Trout Lilies

Trout Lily flower

Up the creek, but minus the pun.

Stairs, I think.

Chipmunks aren't very interesting, but it's the only mammal I caught a picture of.

Yeah, some trees and the creek

I spy with my little eye.... a star flower.  Oh, and that garter snake too.

Closer view of a Star Flower

The active beaver pond (the beaver lodge is the mound of sticks on the left side).

Sugar Shack trail

Marsh Merigold

Marsh Merigold close-up

Aspen trail

At one point I found out what this is, but now I forget.

The forest clearing where our naturalist presentations are... presented.

Why I can add "maintained biological feeding stations" to my resume.  Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

Gary giving a nature walk along the pond

The Headlands; Lake Michigan

Loch Ness Monster.

Wild Strawburry

A couple of Turkey Vultures were pretty sure I was going to die soon.  They kept circling and following me down the beach.  Those bastards have no faith.

Mackinac Bridge again, only from the Lake Michigan side

Woods within the Headlands

French Farms.

Dwarf Lake Iris

Stumbled upon this extrema-rare Calypso Orchid by chance.  Found two about ten feet from each other, and also a Dragon's Mouth Orchid (rare as well), but when I went back a couple days later with a camera I couldn't remember where the Dragon's Mouth was located.  Maybe next time.

Common Merganser (male)

Merganser male (left) and female (right), Ring-billed Gull (background)

Killdeer

Kontemplative Karl?

Clearly two peas in a pod.

Karl's drunk "fuck the government", etc rant.  The cops were called later this night.

Karl and Steve/Slappy.

I've yet to get up earlier than the sun, but perhaps that'll be the next blog. :]

Upper Tahquamenon Falls

I still don't know what this is.

Good ol' Buick and the good ol' roads of northern UP.

Ah, nothing.... Painted Rocks, Lake Superior.
