Coming up my first virtual review while out at a semi ordinary cafe franchise on some not-so-ordinary movie seems appropriate. Especially with three quarters of this establishment on their electronic devices probably doing the same objective as I. Telling the world of experiences that have to be told but won't matter beyond the length of time needed to read this... probably!
Scott Pilgrim vs The World falls right under the opportunistic creativity talent of past experiences in comedies which is common but uncommon in it's visual style story telling /imagination.
Created in the style of a 8 bit computer game, Scott must compete for his love interests heart against "7 evil exs" each with a unique fighting style. You can take either the fights for real or a metaphor of conversation conflicts (i c dis) but unquestionably ends with the same result. This happens 8 times out of 7.
For the fans, this provides a great deal of gaming history moments ranging from cosplaying, gaming lingo and facts (Fuc-Man) ending with recognizable iconic music.
All this translates into it's comedic aspects that makes fun of itself for the viewer. A number of cameos are in on this too.
Highly recommend for anyone with a inner nerd or just enjoy outrageous moments and over the top. The nerdy spawn of Sucker Punch and Kick-Ass.
8/10
