A large banner strung across the entryway read:

Free Miracle Berries with every purchase.

Dani squinted at the board. "I'm probably going to regret this, but I'll try one dandelion with miracle berries."

Mark slid the bowl of berries forward.

"You won't, just make sure you chew the berries well first. They make anything bitter taste sweet for about half an hour."

"Not that the dandelion is bitter or anything."

"I guess I'll have to take your word for it. I've never heard of miracle berries before," said Dani. She cautiously took a bite, making sure to get the berries first.

"I just found out about them myself. They are quite remarkable. I'm thinking of having a party where people eat them with lemons and pickles and such."

"They're not bad. And that would be kind of cool. It would be a party that's hard to forget," said Dani.

"Sort of," said Dani. "I got here over the summer, but I spent a lot of time sulking in my room at first."

"Hah," Mark said. "I know all about that. I am invenerate skulker. It's kind of a hobby of mine."

Mark was painfully aware that he was starting to sound inane.

"Like, you know... a... used bookstores and record stores and the like."
