Yeah, I have been hearing this over the past couple of days and there is much more marketing than truth to it ( ... )

I certainly haven't downloaded many games, as it's not my thing yet on portables. As part of their App Store lecture Apple demoed one game "Hero Sparta" which looked pretty kewl; have you tried it?

Do you think there is some limitation on the iPhone/iPod hardware preventing the sophistocated titles or something else?

I haven't tried Sparta yet, and it's kinda one of the poster boys for why. I have Crystal Defenders (LITE) right now. It's made by Square Enix, one of the best companies on the market, and it's a castle defense game, so it's made of Win. The biggest problem from anyone I talked to about it is the fact that they want $8 for it. Same with Sparta, I have not tried it because there is no demo and it's $8. Now if I am not going to pay $8 for a game I KNOW is good, why would I pay it for a game I have no idea how it plays ( ... )

Yes, one thing Nintendo, Sony and even Microsoft do is develop games for just their own platforms, and then I believe secure exclusive deals for particular games as well. I think Apple is just letting the App Store be the draw to developers, which may be a mistake. It would benefit them to push some interesting game development that exploits the benefits of the platform, and maybe strike an exclusive deal or two.
