This sounds like an entertaining story to her! She may sound a bit too gleeful about the possibility that Dad got in trouble.]

What did you do? I wanna hear!

[He laughs.] Well I don't know, Toph. I did end up stuck with you two.

[As for Fenimore's question? Oh jeez.]

That part is uh, not so important. [Your mom kind of kicked your dad's ass.]

[Fenimore pipes up in a subconscious immitation of Toph:] Hey!

[She doesn't manage to sound offended, though -- more like she found it funny. It might even have distracted her from the topic of Sokka getting his rear put into gear, but Toph's insistance reminds her, so she crosses her arms and agrees:]

Yeah!

[Well maybe he can get off the hook with a little flattery.]

I mean that I got stuck with two beautiful little girls. Absolutely adorable, both of them. Especially when they let their dad off the hook.

[The last sentence kind of ruined Sokka's chances of it working on Fenimore, so she's keeping those arms firmly crossed, nodding at Toph's words.]

We're not stupid.

Okay, okay! But we're family, so that means you two have to keep it to yourselves, got it?

[He may even force a pinky swear on you guys, if he has to.]

[Fen glances at Toph for similar reasons. She was about to threaten him with asking mom about it, anyway. Still, she probably wouldn't be telling anyone outside the family, anyway.]

Yeah. We won't tell.

Right... [He eyes the two of them carefully before deciding, yes, he can trust his progeny.]

Your mom and I didn't exactly have love at first sight. Believe it or not, I used to be kind of a jerk. She was a lot better fighter than I wanted to admit so... when we trained together, she kind of... well, let's just say I ended up on the ground more than a few times.

[She looks surprised at first -- her dad? a jerk? say it ain't so! -- but that last part is diverting that reaction in favour of laughing. She also stops, but she puts her hands over her mouth. This is not very successful in muffling the laughter, though.]

I was cocky, okay!

[He'd normally be a little upset about the laughing, but from his kids, it doesn't really bother him.]

Anyway, I could totally take her now.

[She shakes her head.] I don't think even you can beat Mom.

[If she hadn't been laughing so much, she would look and sound serious, but the laughter wasn't so easily dismissed without some remainder. She is serious about her belief that her parents are invincible, though.]
