Sokka the 49th - [Action/Written]

Oct 26, 2010 14:25

[It was another day at the Avatar house. Well, minus the lack of Katara. Which meant a quiet breakfast. Too quiet. Suki and Zuko were quiet on their own. But Aang? That wasn't like him. So after cleaning up, he decides to go check on the weird bald monk. Only when he opens up Aang's room... it's an all too familiar sight. It's been emptied out ( Read more... )

[He doesn't really feel like looking for his pen right now, especially not when he's preoccupied with something else.]

Not your typical predator if it doesn't finish the job.

[In another part of the forest, Shikamaru uses a stick to turn over a fox. Unlike the rabbit he passed earlier, he can't even find a wound on this one.]

[... fine, voice. He goes with it. His tone is obviously sullen.]

The kill wasn't for food, that's for sure.

[He notes it, but doesn't ask for now.]

Which is even more troublesome. The good thing about animals is that they usually eat whatever they take the energy to kill. [He's quiet for a moment, considering.] Where'd you find it at?

[Yeah, he knows that much. If it was at least half eaten, he wouldn't have bothered to make a message.] Half a mile west of the village.

Hn. Whatever did it gets around fast then. Either that or there's more than one.

[If he hadn't been heading in a completely different direction from where Sokka is, he might've guessed it to someone from the village. And while that's a possibility, especially if it was more than one person working together, it seems less likely. Not to mention pointless.]

[...]

Wait, you found others like this?

Not anything with a puncture to the skull. I passed a rabbit with nothing but a broken leg a couple hours back before I came across a dead fox. [Which is more suited to being a predator itself.]

Could just be a coincidence. [But if they weren't actually eaten...]

Do that many coincidences usually happen around here?

... not really. Were there any tracks around the ones you saw?

Nothing. [He stops scanning the ground, looking instead at the trees.] For all intents and purposes, they look like they just dropped dead.

Where did you find them at?

[Hrrm. Now he'll go find his pen, though it's just to make a quick filter.] I was on my way towards the southern lake. I'd say I was about a mile out when I found the rabbit; three and a half miles when I found the fox.

Any signs that there was something else around?

Nothing telling of anything recent. I'm checking the canopy now.

I'll keep looking too. [But he was planning to do that even before finding the deer.]
