"...You're one of Winry's best friends. With things so weird between us anyway I don't want us to be on ends over something stupid."

Sokka really don't know what to make of Haruhi. He knows that, technically, she's mostly the same person as Haruki, but because of his own experience with alternate universes, he refuses to think of them as being the same. After all, the life of a girl is different than the life of a boy and that they should have any sort of similar relationship is just hard to imagine. To make things worse, they got off on the wrong foot when Sokka teased her over being a girl, with very bad timing, and ended up getting kicked in the nads over it. That was enough to really, really form a negative opinion of her in his mind.

Even if he's over that incident, he finds Haruhi harder to deal with than Haruki. Maybe it's because of the higher pitched voice, maybe she's a little more arrogant... or maybe it's because when Haruki was being a douche, Sokka could punch him and be done with it. This doesn't apply to Haruhi and he finds himself constantly having to lock his jaw and deal with her, to the point he's often not sure why he tries, beyond doing it for Winry's sake.

Sokka has grown a lot more comfortable about Haruhi since she first arrived and come to accept that she is the the Suzumiya now, no longer waiting for her to revert to her 'true self' anymore. Their relationship has obviously changed since then and Sokka doesn't really see her as a rival. For the most part she is just a friend of a friend and though usually it's under the excuse of getting along with her for Winry's sake, he actually doesn't mind her company that much. He rather likes when he can access Haruhi's logical and thoughtful side and talk about certain odd things. Though she usually goes a little overboard in these musings, Sokka does find the conversations stimulating and helpful in figuring out his own thoughts.

He does find Haruhi's relationship with Winry to be odd though. Two girls being together isn't a foreign concept to him, given his own experiences, but he finds it hard to imagine how Winry (and Suki) are able to so easily transfer their affections to a person, despite a radically different shape. But beyond that, he also knows that Haruhi is probably headed towards troubled waters if Ed actually sticks around. He doesn't envy her for that, but he's been keeping his nose out of it for now.
