Tonight was the 4th of 5 Hawksley Workman shows. Well The God That Comes is what it actually is...Hawksleys one man musical show that is all sorts of awesome. I've been jibbering on in excitement about these shows all week on facebook and twitter. I guess Hawksley and Christian (the producer) noticed me on twitter and tracked down me down on facebook to see what I looked like so they could meet me. As I was about to leave tonight Christian comes up to me and asks "Are you Mark??" and thanked me for coming to all the shows and told me I had to come backstage. So I did. I got back there and Hawksley popped out the door saying "Is it Mark?!?" hahaha
Someone just asked a few days ago if over the years I'd ever met Hawksley and I said no and pointed out I rarely meet anyone because they're just people and just because I love their music or movies doesn't mean I will like them as people. I don't usually want to risk their personalities ruining the music so I don't go out of my way to meet people. But Hawksleys life shows show a lot more of his personality than the average musicians live show. After 15 years of shows I knew he would be cool. And he was. I hung out with them talking about all sorts of things then a few other people showed up later so we hung out for a bit and then I made my way home.
For a week where I am staying in Edmonton the entire time it has turned out really great. I was worried I may get sick of the Hawksley show if I went to see it that many times but luckily it hasn't happened. The show just gets better the more comfortable he gets I guess. I'm kind of sad there is only one more. After that I have to go back to work. There are still 5 more shows, but not til I am back at work. But 5 Hawksley shows is still amazing. If I can remember things right the last 5 Hawksley shows were over a span of 8 years. So this week has been amazing. Especially for a week where I am stuck in Edmonton. Somewhere I have decided is not a bad place to live a life but not a great place to just show up for a week here and there.
