The march of time

Mar 16, 2013 02:12

In a few months it will be July 2nd. I shouldn't dwell on this, since dwelling on the past is not always a good thing. But July 2nd 2013 marks a year since my cat passed on.

It just randomly ocurred to me today that this was coming which got me nostalgic on those old memories of her sleeping in my lap, or climbing on my shoulders, or those winter days she would burrow under my blanket to cuddle up for warmth. These memories in turn got me crying for the first time in nearly a year. I might go outside this weekend to find her grave marker, leave something on it.

She may have been a cat but for me she was so much more. I'm sure many of you know that feeling. But since I dare not leave things for her like a turkey sandwhich (she liked filching bits of sandwhich from me when I wasn't looking) I don't know what would be fitting. Maybe catnip, I guess.

In the meantime a new cat showed up with a bummed rear leg what doesn't want to bend correctly. Its a female, but a bit of a runt, having been sick as a kitten so its growth is temporarily stunted. She stumbles a lot when we let her out to exercise, but she seems very affixed to me from the get-go, since unlike my sister, I'm not obsessive about cuddling the new cat (in the "hug you and squeeze you and call you george" way). It even likes burrowing under my shirt while I work to warm up.

People say that cats pick their owners though, not the other way around. And if what I already noticed about her behavior around me is an indication, I think she's claiming me as her "pet". This is something that my sister isn't too thrilled with, naturally. But its not in either of our control. The kitten likes who she likes and that's that.

And computer updates. Yeah. I've got an 8 gigabyte Kingston HyperX memory kit installed now. 2x4 config. And my Boot Config is set up to let me dual-boot both 32-bit and 64-bit windows, in turn allowing me to switch to 64-bit to render videos in Sony Vegas. And install some stuff Fox sent me a while back (thanks again). Just need some SSD's or really really large capacity hard drives to put my Steam games on and another to put videos on and I'll look to setting up the final updates: a new tower case and a new PSU and GPU.

For now I guess that about covers it. I haven't posted in forever, but I do mess with Twitter still. I am also planning to go to Anthrocon again, so there's that.

Yeah. That's all I can think of for now. Have a good night, people.

computer, life
