Work shifted from Ubuntu 9.10 as our development platform to FC12. I've been limping along with an Ubuntu machine locally and access to FC12 servers at work. But I really did need to upgrade. My personal machine needs an upgrade too. I've been running Mandrake 10.0 for a long time (2004?), and its hard drives need to be replaced.

I love pthread barriers so much! They make it very easy to synchronize the various threads in a single unit test. How did I ever live with a pthreads implementation that didn't include them?

(Looks like they made it into glibc in late 2006? Along with spinlocks and rwlocks.)

getrusage() is a system call that tells you (among other things) how much CPU your process has been using. This is useful for making performance measurements. Until it was 'fixed' to match Posix behavior, Linux would actually give you the CPU usage of the current thread. If it takes an hour to download and install new packages, I'm not going to sit around babysitting it. I attended a TCLUG talk tonight by Adam Monsen on Selinum, a web testing tool. It is available as a firefox plugin so you can get started by just recording a test in the browser and replaying it, but also provides "remote control" functionality with libraries for many other languages ( Read more... )
