Hotel rooms are even *more* boring if you are "taking it easy" all day due to a viral infection rather than, say, going to work. It was inevitable that I would get sick on one of my CA trips, so it's just as well when I was staying the weekend anyway.
Tonight I watched "War of the Worlds" on TV and now I'm watching "300".
The former annoyed me because it's got too much focus on Tom Cruise's big dark eyes. And various people acting stupidly. Not enough people dying of hypothermia. And also we have the basic problem of the story which is that the Martians... well...I'm just not sure how well this plan was thought through. Why wouldn't they have tried out a pilot program first?
It occurred to me that one explanation might be that Martian biology simply doesn't *have* micro-organisms and viruses, but that would be a more radical SFnal premise than the giant tripods.
300 is just dumb. What struck me so far is that movie snow so rarely looks like real snow. Real snow is almost always smooth on the ground rather than bumpy.
