It`s a funny old state we find ourselves in isn`t it? The two of us shuffling around awkwardly, both knowing what we have done, both trying not to mention the elephant in the room ( Read more... )

As you may well imagine I very much feel your pain.

I did a lot of research on this whole bullshit at the time, and had a lot of support from my MP over it - she kindly gave me a souveneir cease and desist letter on House of Commons headed paper, and I had the once in a lifetime thrill of her aparatchiks threatening me with the police outside her surgery, which seemed to them a more obvious response than addressing the fact that an appointments only surgery *perhaps* should have been mentioned on the website advertising the surgery, with a mechanism to make appointments - and that perhaps a hand written note on the railings outside the community centre with a phone number on it being the sole mechanism of makiing an appointment was just a little short of what they as her team in the 21st century might have mustered. I mostly didn`t get arrested because everyone ELSE also got fucked by this and so the queue - all of whom were in the same boat - for the surgery became an instant fan club for me.

ANyway, we`re basically fucked because Baroness Warsi apologies to her if I have confused her with the actual Baroness responsible, I`m getting old dear) ignored a whitepaper in which lots of people with clear understanding of the sector foresaw a lot of problems and made some very sensible suggestions indeed (capping charges at 10k for instance) that reasonable people would have begrudgingly gone along with. And thats democracy. Intelligent people make intelligent suggestions, and then a single person - a SINGLE person - a baroness no less (presumably having lived in council housing all her life) decides people can just take out loans or get a second job (actual if slightly paraphrased quote) and thats the matter settled. And your MP repeatedly and incorrectly miscontrues any attempt to discuss it as a specific memememme issue that should be taken up with the council rather than an issue stemming from her governments actions that affect every leaseholder in the country and as such one might reasonably raise it as an issue with her.

Life goes on though. I did have to eat beans on toast for a year and stuff, but it all turns out in the end. You of all people will come through this I`m sure. Feel free to call if you want to rant.
