"Sorry, am I on the right bus for Victoria?"
"Erm. Yes. But in the wrong direction"
"But this will go to Victoria?"
"No. You need to get off and cross the road"
..........many bus stops pass.............
"But if I stay on the bus it will eventually loop around and go to Victoria?"
"Erm. Possibly. You might find you are kicked off and have to cross the road and wait for it to turn round anyway"
"So I cannot stay on the bus and go to Victoria?"
"It`s not a good idea no. You need to get off and cross the road. You can also then get a 38 as an alternative"
"But if I get off the bus is it safe? Is the stop safe to stand at?"

Well done London. A terrified young woman, and as it turns out her entire family (in both directions of age as it turned out once I`d convinced here it was definitely OK, and the amount of people she summoned to get off with her) genuinely believed a round trip of at least an hour of wasted journey was better than risking getting off the bus and standing in the street. Lets just shove a picture of Boris on that and consider it done.

The great thing is, by the end of the dialogue, in which we had passed quite a few "you need to get off now and cross the road" points, a number of other people were joining in, all of whom were very much on the same "you need to get off now and cross the road" tip but all in a lovely helping people way.

That was nice.

Those who were still paying attention once I`d had the "oh fuck, you get it, but you are genuinely scared to be standing on the street in a bit of London you don`t know" realisation were also very nice about it and backed me up that it was absolutely fine.
