[Background]
(Wiki links are allowed) [Personality]
From a young age Subaru was recognized as a powerful onmyōji and the next head of the Sumeragi clan and head onmyōji. As such he was trained and groomed by his grandmother, while always being taught Onmyōdō techniques. At the young age of nine he was split from his twin sister, Hokuto, for a year for training and the succession rights. Through his life though he was loved deeply by both his grandmother and his sister, which helped him develop a very kind heart and innocence that carried him through a number of years. The combination of his talent, innocence, and naivety is first shown in the flash backs to his first job when he and his grandmother had traveled to Tokyo for the succession rights.
He was able to sense the fact that the cherry tree he saw bore a grudge and hatred and tried to cleanse it, while when being told that the petals got their color from drinking the blood of a corpse beneath it he made a statement asking whether the corpse would feel pain. During that time Subaru became marked as the prey of the Sakurazukamori, and was given a special pair of gloves which he was directed to never remove by his grandmother; which due to the rearing and training of his grandmother Subaru obeyed though he was never sure as to why he wasn't allowed to remove them.
His dedication to his job most likely comes from the fact that he was trained so closely and intensely from a young age, and often directed by his grandmother as to what his responsibilities as an onmyōji were. This is shown not only from his first attempt to cleanse the cherry tree, but the fact that Subaru was also willing to give up his dream of becoming a zoo keeper for the live of an onmyōji. In addition to several times continuing to work even while recovering or ill, and even often falling behind in school or occasionally forgetting to eat before rushing off to a job. He feels that he bears a certain responsibility to those who are departed to help them, as well as a responsibility to those who contract the Sumeragi clan and ask for his help.
This immersion and dedication to his training and work is part of what has left him naive as to how certain things in the world, and especially what relationships and romance are like. He was always helping and serving others from that young age, so much that he often thinks and puts others before himself; feeling that everyone is important and remembering everyone that he has ever met. His innocence though was able to be maintained by the love and support that continued to surround him, the fact that Hokuto often spent most of her time looking after him from what he wore, to ensuring that he ate, and always cheering for him. She would encourage him to chase after his dreams and at the same time remind him to be considerate of one another while at the same time reprimanding him for being too timid, she helped him to adjust to the world a bit at a time while also making sure that he remained Subaru. The two of them together were happy and as long as he knew that she would support him and was there then he would smile, unable to realize his feelings toward Seishirou or think about himself without her guidance and assistance in the matter. Subaru even stated that the year that the two of them had been separated was the loneliest time he had felt. His innocence also came from his grandmother's protective and gentle hand guiding him and cautioning him when necessary.
Because he has been sheltered and embedded with this innocence and naivety, Subaru is easy to make blush; often flailing and blushing at the simplest or smallest of suggestions. While his quiet personality likely comes from being with the loud and outspoken Hokuto who often would vocalize her thoughts and opinions as well as Subaru's before he was able to think of what to say. Where as his gentle nature comes from a feeling that he is meant to help and serve others, not to hurt them or hunt them as shown by his politeness and the fact that he often gets so worked up when anyone talks down about another or tries to insult someone.
Who Subaru is at the choices that he makes comes from the nurture of his grandmother and twin; the support, care, love, guidance and encouragement they provide. Though it also comes from his own nature of being born with a talent and power that surpasses even his grandmother's and possibly any of the former heads as well and his own quiet and reserved nature and tendency to care deeply about others while often forgetting about his own feelings as shown by the regression of certain memories such as when he was called weird by a young classmate.
[Abilities]
Onmyōdō techniques: Essentially all of the others abilities fall into this category which broadly can be classified as a combination of magic ranging from divination to spiritual barriers to summoning and abilities to act as a medium.
Shikigami: Shikigami is a familiar/demon which Subaru is able to summon and control, in his case it is a three headed crow which can be directed to split into three parts if necessary. This shikigami can be used for surveillance in which Subaru is able to see and hear everything that the shikigami does, as well as for attacking spiritual barriers or individuals. In the anime Subaru is also able to summon smaller shikigami using ofuda, all of which are smaller white birds with black pentagrams on them which can be used to attack the enemy in the form of energy bursts or simply by pecking at them.
Dream Walking: Subaru has the ability to enter into the mind and consciousness of an person who is unconscious, either due to a deep sleep or a coma. Able to roam their consciousness or dream in search of them as well as to interact with the dreamer and the environment, though he is cautious not to damage anything as that would be destroying a portion of the person's personality or mind.
Spiritual Barriers: Even Hokuto who is less talented with Onmyōdō techniques has been shown to have some proficiency with seals and barriers. However Subaru is able to construct and create seals and barriers to keep out spells and protect himself and others, as well as having an ability to recognize them or any errors that have been made in a seal or barrier created by others. In the point that I am taking him from he had not yet learned how to create a kekkai; this does not come until closer to the X/1999 timeline after Tokyo Babylon.
Psychic Wave Bursts: This is a burst of psychic energy that is essentially converted into kinetic energy and can be used to attack if directed and pointed or shield if broadened and spread out. This is a talent again picked up closer to the X/1999 timeline but is alluded to towards the end of Tokyo Babylon.
Exorcism: An ability to act as a medium and exorcist, Subaru is able to summon the spirits of those who have passed away in addition to being able to see and communicate with spirits. At the same time in the event of a possession of a person or place by either a vengeful spirit or by a deep rooted emotion, Subaru is able to expel them from the person being possessed freeing the spirit or cleansing the attached emotion.
[Other important stuff]
I will be taking Subaru from the Tokyo Babylon series, which varies a good deal from when he appears in X/1999 and should not be confused for the Subaru that appears in Tsubasa: Reservior Chronicles even though it is a cross over as Clamp is famous for.

[First Person]
- What do you think of your home world?
What do I think of Tokyo? Well I love it, though unlike Seishirou or Hokuto I have my own reasons for loving it. I think it's a great place where people can live out their dreams if they're willing to hold on to them.
- If someone provoked or attacked you, what would you do?
Provocation isn't really a reason to respond, if you act on their provocation then nothing good can come from it and someone is going to get hurt. I'd rather find out why they were acting that way and help them in anyway that I could. Though if attacked I guess I would defend myself, though I would try to do it without hurting them either.
- Someone comes to you to ask for the time. How would you respond?
I would tell them time? [He's a little confused by the question, were they trying to ask what time it was?]
- If I offered to save your soul for a price, would you go with it and why?
That's a not a joke, people don't have to pay anything to have their soul saved, they have the power to tend to their own heart and soul on their own without someone else trying to corrupt or twist it. Granted there some people who have stronger spirits and can pursuade others because of it or have other skills, that doesn't mean that they can save another's soul; especially not if they treat as lightly as something to be purchased or barganed over!
- The hottest boy/girl in class/workplace just confessed their love to you. How do you respond?
[He's going to blush deeply and pull his hat down trying to hide at just the question.] W-why would they do something like that?
- Hey, did you hear about that giant sale going on? Interested? What would you want to get?
Umm, no I didn't hear anything about it. I'm sure that Hokuto-chan would have loved to go though if she were here. She's always enjoyed finding different things that are available at sales. I've never been one to go shopping though. [laughs a moment light heartedly.]
- There is a cake in the rain. What do you do?
Why would someone put cake out in the rain? I guess I would try to find something and cover it so that it wouldn't be ruined before they came back to get it, or find somewhere dry to put it for them.
- If you could change your current lifestyle or job career, what would it be?
Well there was a time that I wanted to be a vet, but then I found out they had to disect dead animals so I changed it to become a zoo keeper. That way I could be with the animals and help to care for them without having to anything like that.
- Am I asking too many personal or strange questions?
Oh not at all. Well some of them are a little odd, like the one about a cake in the rain. And that one was k-kind of personal. [Starts blushing a little again.]
[Third Person]
It was really starting to pour again. Subaru had brought a small hand held umbrella that one of the shop keeps had given him when the young onmyōji had unexpectedly gotten caught out in the weather. He didn't think that there would be rain so suddenly in a dream, though he supposed that it made as much sense as anything else. After all in a dream people could create and distort a number of things. He poked through the groceries that were in his bag, at least he didn't have anything that would be ruined if it got wet, though it would probably be best to keep the tea as dry as possible.
Hokuto would have yelled at him if she knew that he had went out without an umbrella and even more now that the one that he had been given had blown inside out; or if she was even in the dream. Letting out a sigh, he closed his hand around the bag and headed off into the rain again, dashing through the empty steets.
Though while had been hurrying along from the store with his bag in tow, something suddenly caught his attention and made him stop despite the fact that the rain threatened to soak him all the way through. The house had seemed to call out momentairly, and the appearance and look made it seem as if the house had some kind of history. Even though it wasn't a formal job, Subaru was curious and was drawn to try and clense it from any grudges that it might have; espeically if something violent had happened there. Pulling out several ofuda he tossed them around the building before chanting a prayer and walking up to the door and entering with a knock.
"Hello, it there anyone here?"
Not recieving a response or sensing anything directly the young onmyouji, pulled out another talisman saying a prayer once more to find the source of the feeling that had caused him to stop outside this house. Witht he prayer the paper seemed to straighten and glow a little, a small bit of vapor almost seeming to be omitted as the words continued to be recited; all leading towards the room where the window was.
