All my life I waited to buy a home, and once I did I realized it was the best move I ever made. I had a lot of reasons for holding back, some obvious, others not-so. It comes down to a blend of being overly cautious, fearful of a big commitment, and a general lack of desire to have to be THAT responsible.

Don't feel bad about your diminutive friends list. You'll gain more "friends" as people get to know you better. A word of caution though: don't read too much into the LJ meaning of "friend" as it means very different things to each user on this system. This minutiae has been the source of many a flaming journal rife with drama in these-here parts of the web!
Me? Many of my LJ "friends" were actual friends before I started journaling, so they naturally appear on my list here. Some have been added as I began reading their journals, and we've become friends away from cyberspace. You'll lose "friends" here too, as to some it's just a way to be able to read private posts or a way to have an extensive "friends" list. Some here feel that longer the list, the more prestigious you are (hogwash in my opinion).
Anyway, your journal is YOURS to do with as you see fit. Enjoy, and I look forward to reading more.
BTW, congratulations on being a homeowner - it really is a great feeling, huh?
