Claire is holding on to Sokka's hand RILLY VERY TIGHTLY right now. This place gives her the creeps.

"OK, just so we're clear? This is not a standard place to take a girl on a date."

"Are all your towns like this?"

Then, "Really, no. It's like some sort of ghost town or something. You have your sword, right?"

He'll protect her. He has to.

"We have to get out of here. Which way did we come in?"

In the fog, it's confusing.

Claire squeezes his hand tightly.

"I'm not leaving you," she says. She's unnerved, but not in the slightest bit afraid.

Until the fog ahead of them seems to show a dark shape or two, and there's a dark, low growling.

Sokka's hand is out of hers and holding his sword in an instant, the other aiming his boomerang carefully through the fog.

"Stay back," he half-asks, half-orders.

Now Claire's scared, but not for her.

She does, obediently, step behind Sokka, a hand on his shoulder.

"Be careful," she says, as the strange dog thing runs forward.

"They should be careful."

But ... it's just a dog, even if it's ugly. Sokka drops his boomerang back into its sling and brings the flat of his sword around, hard, at the dog's head.

It sends the dog reeling, but not for long, as it turns around the next second and leaps at both teenagers again.

Claire lets go of Sokka and steps back.

He glances back at Claire anxiously as it reels and turns around again. -- what should he do!?
