[discussion] Line between RPF and TSN!Fic.

So, I have a question to ask all of you lovely people ♥ Mods, please delete if this is not the right place to stick this.

I'm relatively new to the TSN fandom and have started writing a bit of fanfic (I can only hope that I'll ever get it done) and came across a mild dilemma when it came to characterising things - namely, details about the two characters Mark and Eduardo, though this does apply to almost anything TSN related.

Y'see, I personally am unable to write RPF (even if Andrew and Jesse are pretty much begging for it). But this is a fandom where RPF kind of inevitably intertwines with the Fiction. Sort of.

Thing is, with fanfiction, authors have a habit of borrowing details to augment a character based on their actors. I don't actually have much of an opinion on this, but with TSN, there's two sources of "extra" character material available through both Jesse and Andrew and the real Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin.
What I want to know is, do you use details of the real Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin to get more insight for TSN! Mark and Eduardo? Or do you use details about Jesse and Andrew to add things about Mark and Eduardo? To what extent do you separate TSN as a fictional work in relation to the real Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin?

I ask because, if you view TSN as a separate fictional work (which is what I do), ignoring their Real World! counterparts, I find that you get a lot more liberty with their histories and characterisations since while the film showcases the important parts about the characters, there are also many plot holes. But if you view it as something that needs to be interwoven with Real! Mark and Eduardo, you get a note of authenticity, a "source" for more information, but you also restrict yourself in a way.

... I'm not really sure where I'm going with this, but I wanted to know if anyone else was thinking about the separation? D:

also ps. someone link me to some TSN icons :c
