unfortunately, because I'm not in the habit of having to articulate them extensively I can't offer any discussion worth a damn, but I just want to say, your take tallies very closely to mine. (I still think Fincher has a chance, but I'm rating the Coen Brothers' chances higher than his, but otoh Best Picture might be possible.)
in short, it's all politics!

though I will say that I can still kind of see the "smart vs. heart" argument to some degree - it's just an overly simplified version of a viewpoint which makes some sense. not because tsn doesn't make viewers feel (AND HOW), but more because that feeling isn't an uplifting, positive one. I left tsn having loved it, but I also felt a little like I bit off more than I could chew, emotionally, and needed some time to process. there is no easy choice in who to side with, or root for, which I love, but it is very different than the last feeling one gets from tks, which is overwhelmingly positive.
so, I think what I'm saying is, it's not "smart vs. heart" so much "complicated vs. positive." IF THAT MAKES SENSE. feel free to disagree with me.
