But see, this one point is something Slott could have easily undone. Quesada or no Quesada. Of course he's been kissing up Quesada's ass so much with his writing. That instead of a heroic underdog, we've had to suffer in dealing with a complete worthless loser in Amazing ever since BND started.
I just remember a few years ago, when Wally West aka the Flash, needed to regain his secret identity. Intead of a deal with the devil that completely destroyed his personality, they had him unknowingly deal with a somewhat grey/heroic character. And then started it off with everyone having forgotten the Flash's ID, including the Flash himself. (Batman somehow remembered, or found out, but I'm not entirely sure I remember why that was*g*) Anyway, the first thing, the very first things that Wally did as soon as he did remember, was tell his wife, his family and his best friends. Because he didn't want to lie to them.
And the only reason he didn't tell the Pied Piper right away, was because the guy was missing at the time.
If Peter had any respect for May, the first thing he should have done as soon as everyone forgot, was to make sure that MJ and May knew. After that he could have gone on to Daredevil, Black Cat, and possibly the FF and the Avengers. Because those are the people who've proved in the past that they could handle his secret identity and would not betray him.
But then we've seen in the past that where Spider-Man is concerned, decent characterization is not even in the top ten of things any of the writers of ASM in the past few years since OMD have cared a single bit of a damn about.
I mean, I don't even know why I got my hopes up with the unmasking. Maybe because it was dealt so well with by Bendis in Daredevil, that I honestly believed they'd actually be ale to do something with it in ASM. Yet instead it was nothing more than an excuse to ruin Spider-Man. Just like Cap and other characters have gotten great 'death of the character' arcs, and all Spidey got was 'the Other', with not even one issue devoted to people dealing with his death.
Then again, all that could be blamed on Quesada as well. There's a reason JMS didn't want his name attached to the final issue of OMD after all.
When Peter was with Dr. Strange to erase the memory of him being Spider-Man, MJ was the only one with him because May obviously was still in the hospital with a GSW. The only reason MJ kept the memories was that Peter pulled her into the bubble he was in so she COULD remember.
After that, they only way someone would remember that Peter was Spider-Man was if he told them. Could he have told May, sure he could but he may have wanted to protect her. As for MJ, he thought that them being together she would be safe.
But the final say goes to the book editor and/or EIC. I don't see change happening anytime soon.
