Fic: "In That Dawn To Be Alive"

Nov 28, 2010 22:01

All right!  Here is my response to sacae 's second request-- "Catria/Frey, French Revolution."  It's the canon world of Archanea, filtered through the French Revolution, with a side of Napoleon!Michalis.

Note: If y'all think this is a happy fun story, you're not up on your history.

Spoilery details )

writing, fe11, fanfiction, fic prompt response, catria, fire emblem

I'll let Manna get in a review before I leave one for you at FFN. Suffice to say, it was a good read despite the heavy political era in which you've been constrained.

Though come to think of it, I did that with my request too, didn't I? [sweatdrop]

You've a knack for all the little details that seem to give your works definition in whatever world or period that you write. :)

I actually started on that one immediately after the prompt, got stuck, wrote "Transcendence" instead, and then decided to get un-stuck. :)

Napoleon!Michalis, you say ? Strange, when I read the fic I thought you were going for a parallel with Robespierre here, especially since I automatically associated this portrayal of the Révolution with the Terreur. Now, if there was a sequel, I would definitely imagine Jagen as the leader of the Thermidoriens... I already have that mental image of Cain and Abel holding Michalis' head for everyone to see that a new tyrant has fallen >:)

The Philippe Egalité reference is really nice. Now, I can't help but see a resemblance between Sheema and the future Louis-Philippe, so in another hypothetical sequel, why not having a monarchic Restauration in Gra, with Sheema as the next king ? (since Jiol doesn't seem to have siblings) Also, Philippe Egalité was guillotined in 1793 because his eldest son (not Louis-Philippe) participated in a failed coup d'Etat.

Voilà, I've added my grain of salt as an arrogant Frenchwoman (hey, I don't know the first thing about Civil War (besides what I read in Les Tuniques Bleues), but at least I can pretend to ( ... )
