You should be grateful to this guy.
Characters as diverse as Innes, Shinon, Joshua, and Levin all can trace their lineage back to him. He's both the original Snarky Sniper and the original Wandering Noble, at least as far as FE goes.
I refer, of course, to #5:
Jeorge.
Yeah, yeah. Useless pre-promote. Take away his kewl weapons and give them to Gordin or Ryan or whomever. But this isn't about awesome units, it's about awesome characters. Or character I adore. Whatever.
1) Jeorge has his own agenda. He's a Nyna loyalist, not a Marth loyalist. That was one of the winning things about him in FE3; he could only be recruited by his pupil Gordin, and he never fully bought into the Marth Cult that three-quarters of the rest of the cast signs up for without much thought.
1a) And they softened this up in FE12 by allowing Marth to recruit him. Sigh.
2) His recruitment scene with Astram. Win.
3) His entire attitude when you encounter him as a enemy in Chapter 8 of FE3. Unlike Astram the Tool, Jeorge knows there's something ridiculous about the entire fiasco. "Pitiful fools," indeed.
3a) If this doesn't sound so impressive, keep in mind this is FE3 we're talking about. Jeorge gets a lot of talky scenes for a supporting character, and he's not a blithering ninny in them.
4) One of the most convincingly intelligent and mature characters in the Archanea cast. Again, that's not saying much, but allow the era its handicaps.
5) How about the part where he forms his own brigade of knights and fights crime around Pales after the war?
6) He was even good in the manga.
7) Did I mention he's the leader of an all-star(ish) crime-fighting team? I did? Oh well, I'll say it again. Look, a good chunk of the FE3 cast just up and disappears. Jeorge does stuff. Stuff that helps keep his nation stable. He's not sitting on his hands expecting Marth to make everything magically better by existing.
Jeorge: smart, tough, competent and proactive character who does not prostrate himself before Marth just because the script says Marth is awesome. Hell, from what I've seen, he even came out of FE12 unscathed in terms of characterization.
