I am a Linux User, and proud of it.
A while ago, I posted up some pics of my
Mepis desktop, when I was using the Mepis Linux distro. That was good, I liked it, it did everything I wanted, but after awhile, it got bloaty (plus som epeople on the forums weren't that nice). So, I started looking for something else.
I got hold of an AusPC mag and it had a live CD version of
Ubuntu 5.04 "Hoary Hedgehog" on it, so I gave it a try, and within 10 minutes had installed it over the top of Mepis. And I haven't looked back since.
I have upgraded in the meantime to the most current version of Ubuntu, 5.10 "Breezy badger", and it is even better. The boot-up screen, the way it is so easy to modify the system to how I want, the fade-in/fade-out of the screensaver, too many things to name. I am in love.
Behind this cut I have put a photo of my current desktop, please note that I just took it without getting too many windows open, just wanted you to be able to see the basic layout. One day, Ii hope, you will be able to experience the Ubuntu freedom for yourself. If you follow some links on the main
Ubuntu site, you can actually order FREE ubuntu cd's, at NO COST to you AT ALL. These come with an install CD and a Live CD, so you can try it before committing. I recommend it to everyone who uses the net for web surfing, email reading, music listening, office stuff, and basic games (minesweeper, tiles, etc). I am currently learning to use 3D software on it, and I wont be going back to Windows (except to play Battlefield 2).
I have changed my wallpaper recently, here is the current one (as of 3/11/2005)
