Reluctant Readers - BOYS

May 14, 2009 07:42

Hi All!
Recently a writer friend of mine asked for some recommendations for her son, who happens to be in middle school. She said he is a reluctant reader and she wanted to find him some books for the summer.

Here is a short list of some of the titles I think he would like:

AMONG THE HIDDEN - (series) by Margaret Peterson Haddix
ZACH'S LIE (has sequels) by Roland Smith
PENDRAGON: Merchant of Death (series) by D.J. MacHale
JOEY PIGZA SWALLOWED THE KEY (series) by Jack Gantos
DIARY OF A WIMPY KID (series) by Jeff Kinney
RESCUE JOSH MCGUIRE by Ben Mikaelsen

Interested in math and puzzles? THE PUZZLING WORLD OF WINSTON BREEN (series) by Eric Berlin
Interested in the outdoors? Try novels by Gary Paulsen, especially HATCHET and its sequels
Interested in sports? Try books by Matt Christopher and Mike Lupica

Okay writers - let's hear it...
BOOKS FOR BOYS WHO ARE RELUCTANT READERS

Do you have any to add?
Remember - they must be appropriate for RELUCTANT readers.

(We'll do a list for voracious readers who are young males in the near future!)

diary of a wimpy kid, ben mikaelsen, rescue josh mcguire, margaret peterson haddix, reluctant readers, eric berlin, roland smith, d.j. machale, winston breen, zach's lie, marjorie light, jeff kinney, book review, among the hidden, jack gantos, pendragon: merchant of death, joey pigza
