It's been 10 weeks. I remain gainfully unemployed. Recent steps I have taken to try to overcome this:
* I revamped my resume. What had been just shy of 4 pages has been consolidated into 2. It flows better, better highlights my skills, and more accurately articulates my accomplishments.
* I attended a small job fair Monday morning. Only 6 companies were present, and only 3 needed somebody in the IT field, but it got me face time with recruiters and helped me better understand just what I'm up against.
The next step, obviously, is to kick searching back into high gear. I took some down time for my brother's wedding, which was a fantastic break for me all around, but that doesn't help pay the bills or prepare for my daughter Chloe's arrival at the end of January. I'm seriously on the verge of walking into Best Buy with my resume and asking to talk to the Geek Squad manager. The pay would absolutely suck, but it would at least be more than I'm pulling in from unemployment benefits.
My wife's birthday is in 4 days. My wedding anniversary is in a week. I have zero overhead to purchase anything for her and no materials in the house to make her anything worthy. Creativity has never been my strong point, but for her, I'll dig out what I can.
