Woo! I'm on time! ... not that anyone really cares. XD
This week's song is...
New Model Army - Another Imperial Day The first thing I want to say about this piece is that it's one of the best-written songs I've ever heard. Every word carries so much force and weight behind it. The singer half-sings, half-speaks the entire song. His voice is beneath the music, and you really have to concentrate in order to be able to understand him as he tells the story of something that's always been going on, and has become even more of an issue in the past few years. Immigration. It isn't the story of one single person, but instead a comment on the imperialistic nature of the thing. The way the piece is written makes it feel as though you're in some post apocalyptic society, and you don't quite realize what the song is about until you read the lyrics.
The song intensifies as it goes on, especially gaining strength as it goes through the lines, "Goods are free to move but not people, Oil is free to move but not people, Jobs are free to move but not people, Money is free to move but not people" and becomes desperate, rich with imagery as he describes a man that the authorities are towing away.
You could classify this as post-punk or goth, if you were really into genres. The music definitely fits the description, where all the instruments seem to be lurking beneath the surface of the song, nothing really in the foreground, which makes the music itself very difficult to describe. The words are definitely the best part of this song.
All in all, you should really download this song. It's excellent and real political commentary, not this "OMG BUSH SUCKS LOLOLOL!!!1" stuff that you hear on the radio nowadays.
