This has been a very media-oriented weekend. I have watched a lot of TV and movies! I haven't seen a lot of movies in the past few months, so this was a nice change. I rented Dan in Real Life and The Namesake from Blockbuster. I had heard bad things about Dan in Real Life, specifically that Steve Carrell can only play one character, and that's Michael Scott (The Office for those of you under a rock). After seeing Dan in Real Life and Get Smart, I disagree. Obviously, as a comedian, Carrell's sense of humor permeates all his roles, but they are all distinct characters as well. I really enjoyed Dan in Real Life and laughed out loud several times.
The Namesake was good too. It took me forever to realize that the actor who plays the main character, Kal Penn, is the same guy who plays Kutner in House and Kumar in Harold and Kumar. I kept recognizing him but just couldn't place him. I read The Namesake in the fall and couldn't put it down. The movie is a little slow, but beautifully done and faithful to the book, as far as I could remember.
Other things I watched this weekend include: the first four episodes of Season 1 of Lost, The Last September, Othello with Christopher Eccelston (the invisible man from Heroes, among other things), Flesh and Blood with Christopher Eccelston, and about half an episode of Psych, which I liked ok, but not well enough to finish.
Funny Rosie story: Rosie sleeps in a wire kennel in my room every night. She likes her kennel and often goes in there when she feels scared or threatened (vacuum cleaner time and bath time, specifically). Last night, while I was getting ready for bed, she went ahead and got in the kennel, and I forgot to close the latches. She fell asleep as usual; I could tell by the snoring. This morning, I got up and was moving around in the kitchen, thinking about going back to bed because it was storming. I turned around, and there was Rosie, looking at me and wagging her tail with an expression that said, "Look what I did!!" She then indicated that she wanted to go outside in the pouring rain. Then, when I took her out there, she didn't want to get in the grass to use the bathroom because it was wet. Silly thing.
