Lex is in Japan on a business trip. Clark is staying at the Luthor penthouse while he's in the city checking out a Metropolis University internship. And Jonathan, who's alone in the penthouse for the afternoon, ends up overhearing a message from Lex to Clark - one that makes him aware that the boys' relationship is much closer than he'd ever suspected, and that (after driving him to drink and make lists) makes him realize that maybe Lex isn't so bad for Clark after all.
