...okay?

Potentially unpopular opinion: This is Us is emotional Stockholm Syndrome.

I set out at the start of the season to watch at least a couple episodes because it really didn't seem like my type of show but the swelling music and emotive notes in the trailers hit me in the "feels". I figured I'd watch at least the pilot and then from there let the episodes build up on my dvr with every intention of watching until I finally deleted whatever was left once my machine ate random ones and I deleted the recording info.

I did nothing of the sort and have now done an almost total 180 on wanting to watch. The reason has come from reviews and soundbites I keep hearing about how "you'll definitely need a tissue" for the next episode. Except every single episode is "the next episode". Every. Single. Week.

By the end of the season, all these characters are going to have so many emotional shrapnel bombs exploding around them that they're going to drown in a sea of their own snot. And the viewers are going to feel wrung out. I like having a good cry as much as the next person, and even feel like I need it sometimes but week after week doesn't it start to feel almost like blackmail? How long can the show keep up that level of emotions for the sake of impact?

Also, it looks like the new movie Urban Myths with Joseph Fiennes playing Michael Jackson (yep) is this year's Movie 43. That's all I can come up with when I saw it. What even?
