Have some word vomit.
--> Work is going and I'm above the waves right now but that could very easily fall apart if I don't keep on top of things. It's so very easy for me to get distracted so I have to try my very best to stay focused.
--> In this case "focus" does not mean "Fuck off, cause ur stupid". But goddamn is it fun to tell someone to "focus" who you really fucking hate.
--> Got the results of my MRI back from my physiotherapist and there is a slight bulge in my C6/7 spine (neck area) which explains why my right arm/hand has felt so fucked up since the accident. It's not pressing on anything and isn't as bad as the ones I have in my lower back, but it's still obviously causing issues. It's just a relief to know that there IS something because when my doc ordered it he said he suspected it was just muscle swelling in my back. Which I was pretty sure WASN'T it but I was worried it was all in my head. It's not! Well, TECHNICALLY it IS, lol. I'll have to wait to see my GP to hear what he says about it but my physiotherapist is going to keep on going and use this to get me more treatment sessions.
--> Have watched the pilots & more of Gotham, The Mysteries of Laura, Scorpion, and Red Band Society so far.
Kinda boring? I'm going to tune into at least the next episode or so to see what else is to come. It's too hard to judge a show based on the pilot alone. But there wasn't much to grab me right from the start. Honestly, superhero shows are hit and miss for me. I only watched about three episodes of AoS last season (although I have the whole season dled to watch), I watched all of s1 of Arrow and then tuned out and as much as I want to try The Flash I don't know if it'll keep me hooked for the whole season. I might just have to wait and see and marathon it.
With Gotham it'll depend on if it even makes it to the end of the season and what the reactions are to it (for instance, Halle Berry's show Extant is unlikely to return for a s2 so why would I marathon s1?) which is why I'm still interested in going back to AoS and trying again. I heard it got a lot better towards the end and I DO enjoy the movies.
So Gotham. I don't really care about Bruce Wayne. Cat Woman as a child doesn't do much for me. I don't mind Ben McKenzie at all and could even watch a show based JUST on him and him fighting crime. Jada Pinkett Smith has a weird accent and I don't particularly like it. The Penguin's origin story is something I could watch for but if it's 22 episodes of people continually doing shitty things or trying to go back and forth between being kinda good and full-on bad that's super boring.
There's just not a whole lot that I can see that will keep me engaged, especially since it's a prequel leading up to when the city becomes so depraved and run by criminals that Batman is needed. So things aren't going to get any better, you know? I'm also quite irritated by the is he/isn't he with Gordon's partner and wondering what his deal is.
And the lines are really hokey. It's very dramatic and overly so. I would prefer gritty over noble, thanks.
Oh. Oh, no. Like. I just got done saying it's too hard to judge a show based on the pilot. And it IS.
But this is bad. It's a mess. Not even a hot one, just a plain mess. I have set this one up to pvr for the season but I don't think it's going to be there long. I caught the last 10 minutes or so of this week's episode while I was waiting for the L&O:SVU premiere and OH GOD. It was just so BAD.
I like Debra Messing. I even like her in this SORT of character. But wow. WOW. I think she'd be better off as someone who hasn't yet had a husband and kids and has all that happen through the course of the season. Maybe that's too much like Angie Harmon's character on Rizzoli & Isles, I don't know, but Debra's character is also a general mess HERSELF whereas Angie's isn't.
The scriptwriting is SO BAD. SO FUCKING BAD. Like, shitty puns bad. I like puns, okay? I LOVE puns. I use puns.
These are bad fucking puns.
And AS IF her new Captain would turn out to be her soon-to-be ex-husband. Even if they're on amicable terms (which... I couldn't 100% tell if they were or not) an ending relationship with emotions involved mixed with legal access to fucking firearms? I DON'T FUCKING THINK SO.
The show can't tell if it wants to be a serious drama/cop show or a comedy because her fucking kids were ALLLLL over the place. Like, no kids are that fucking bad, especially with parents like her. It's a distraction and unnecessary.
I will run to Bad Judge when it premieres because it looks like what this WANTS to be but with a judge instead of detective. Everything else is basically the same. Red head? Yup. "Inappropriate" behaviour from females? Sure. Brash & unspoken in professions they shouldn't be in? Absolutely. But BJ looks (tentatively) good.
Okay, so when I heard about the plot of this show and that Katherine McPhee was going to be in it as the "Penny" of the show (hello, CBS with your stereotype roles) I was pretty snarky about it in my head. I thought it sounded ridiculous.
Then I watched the sneak peek last week before the premiere and I was like--uh. Okay. I'll try the pilot.
I enjoyed it! It wasn't anything spectacular, nor realistic in the least, but it was ENTERTAINING. The kid wasn't annoying. K McPhee was lowkey (hopefully they never have a karaokee scene and make her get up there cause Smash was quite enough). The geniuses were... well, what can you expect from cookie cutter characterizations? Oooh, they're all HANDICAPPED and DAMAGED from their abilities.
Whatever, I'll try to overlook my jadedness from all that to continue the show. So far it seems like something that I shouldn't have a problem staying entertained by, especially when it's on my pvr. I can see Gotham piling up until it gets auto deleted for space. This I can keep up to date with, I think.
Until it gets convoluted or the plotlines go off the grid.
I knew it was going to be a "good" show from the reviews it was getting but I didn't expect to like it as well as I did!
I like these "bands of misfits" shows and this is no different. I'm also a sucker for hospital stuff (well, er, anyway, not so much Grey's Anatomy) and this has the ultimate hospital stuff. I love the setting and how advanced everything is. Really like Octavia Spencer's character, Dave Annabelle is a fucking silver fox, Wilson Cruz is a delight and all the kids are pretty innocuous and not grating on my nerves. They're all fairly predictable characters but in this setting I think it's okay because the situations will be different for them.
I'll keep watching for now and see if I stick out the season.
-->Glad Lawn & Order: SVU is back, even if it's not the same as its been in the past. The CI guy really fucked up the style of the show and I'm STILL getting used to it. Going to check out How to Get Away with Murder although I'm not a huge fan of the soapy drama Shonda Rhimes tends to create. But the premise is interesting and Katie Findlay is in it, which is a big part of why I'm trying it, ngl. I have to watch the last 3-4 episodes of s1 of Reign to be caught up on that for the s2 premiere. As much as it bastardizes and shits on everything historical I really enjoy the show. I had to marathon it to get into it but it's not that bad and everything's so pretty on it. Sticking it out with Intruders for the moment although I have the past three episodes to catch up on, but I think it'll be easier to slog through all at once and it's a shorter show (thankfully, based on the first two episodes). I quite enjoyed the premiere of Sleepy Hollow, too. Glad we're not languishing with any of the plot. Woo!
I think I've sufficiently shot my wad.
