Still waiting to get my iPhone 5. :( I have my name on a list and there should be a shipment coming in tomorrow to another store but stupid Telus went stupid down on Friday because of all the demand so I couldn't get my stupid phone. I DON'T LIKE WAITING!!!
Anyway. I didn't watch the Emmys, but I did a fashion sort of thing after the
Golden Globes back in January so I thought I'd do one for this one because I like wasting a lot of my time.
The only reason these two guys are here is because it seems they both shopped at the same store for their suits. Elvis' House of Blue Velvet, it would appear. They're also the only two guys period because I wasn't privy to any cracktastic Thomas Jane photos this year. Can't say I'm disappointed.
I know the lady on the left is from Downton Abbey and the one on the right is from Girls (right?) and that's about it. That blue thing is... bad. Boring and what the hell is up with the stiching on the bodice? Her skin is flawless, though! The one on the right looks polished but what's up with that *waves hand* mess? There's see-through patches and boobs and outlines and ... lace? and a leg panel. Just- I'm exhausted looking at it.
From the neck up Lena Dunham looks cute. Kind of wish her hair was cut a bit shorter, in more of a pixie, but this is okay, too. The eye makeup is okay, I guess. But the dress is oy. It's what you'd wear to meet the Queen at a more formal tea or something. Throw a hat on and scrub off the eyes and there you go. I guess it's not the worst, considering that Lena doesn't seem to be stylist-centric but still.
Krysten Ritter! I love you, actually! I love this colour. I love the skirt, kinda. Well, I love the colour. I just--really? I'm not even put off by the granny panties/body suit/whatever the fuck that is because there's other stuff to focus on but eventually I do land on whatever's happening down south and it's weird. To be totally honest I'm more offended by those hideous shoes. I couldn't stare at them for too long because I have a foot thing but from behind they look almost like high tops or some shit and from the front they're an awful, awful colour and look dirty. Why not go with a flirty ballet flat or something for this look? I don't mind the shirt TOO much but there's just too much happening with this look, those bangs, that makeup in the closeups. *sigh* I'm tired again.
Emilia Clarke here looks cute, right? The hair's okay, I guess. She's got nice makeup happening and her jewellery is subtle. The white is eye-catching and then you look at the purple pattern and it's intriguing.
And then... If the dress didn't have its own freaking coat or whatever you call that thing (is this some sort of weird wrap-around mullet dress?) it'd be kicky and totally cute. I think I'd love it. The shoes are just okay but not offensive (see above). What I kept focusing on is that there don't appear to be pockets there that she's clinging to. If there WERE pockets, well, it wouldn't make me like this any more but at least I wouldn't keep LOOKING AT HER HANDS HOLDING UP HER DRESS. Unless you're fleeing from the chapel or you want a billion people to stop traipsing on your train at the Oscars there's no reason you should be holding up a wrap-around mullet, okay?
Yeah, I know Ashley.
This is kind of absurd, right? But that hair. That HAIR. Is it hiding your Pinky & the Brain brain under there? Are you heading to the jail after this kick at the can, hoping to spring out a jailbird lover so you're hiding a shank or a lock pick in there? What's up with that? Also, the bow. I have to say this dress is actually GORGEOUS. Awesome colour, great cut and I love how sleek it is on you. Gorg.
Hair and bow. Hairbow but not. Also, I think you're kinda crazy? Like, I'd legit be kind of afraid of you if I ever met you in more than a fan/star encounter? Not that that has any bearing on your outfit but I kind of worry about what you'll say about people panning your dress. You look fucking amazing, though!
Okay, maybe Christina here doesn't deserve to be on my "I... what?" list. But when I saw the closeups of this dress I couldn't help it. The belt she's wearing was enough to send me over the edge. It's a little dirty and I feel like whoever put this on her was like- "HERE! This will make your boobs pop out EVEN MORE. Just cinch that shit up and out you go!" I also don't know why she can't find a dress that doesn't look like ... THIS always. Her HAIR and makeup? GORG. Her dress? BORING OLD PROM SHIT. Also, I GET IT. She's got fucking nice tits! Doesn't mean I want them shoved in my face so often they're pressing against MY chin.
There's nothing totally wrong with this. It's perfectly functional and all. I actually like the flip between the colours. But. why does it look like she's wearing figure skating illusion netting at her sides, who stuck Geordi LaForge's eyes around her waist and what the hell is up with that hair? That limp-ass pony and lank bangs? Kudos on finding a dress that flatters & accentuates her awesome shoulders & arms but seriously, what's up with the rest of it? At least she wasn't bound and wrapped like a mummy like some of the other people? This looks breathable and comfy, at least.
Lena Headey you are gorgeous. This dress makes it look like you went to play dress up in Morticia Addams' lingerie closet. I think Kristen should probably be more in the "Ehhhhh" category but I looked at her photos right after seeing Tina Fey's, who went all out with a gorgeous dress & hair and I felt Kristen's effort was lacking. She also went to play dress up in someone's lingerie closet. Her hair is okay. I guess this is the way I'd want to do an awards' show, though? Effortlessly and with an air of "I'm here, but I'm coming in what I want to be in for a lot of hours"?
Ginnifer is cute here and I LOVE her shoes. But I feel like we've already seen this dress for some reason. And if we haven't I think it would be WAY better if it was shorter. I think this would fit her a bit better with more of a calf-length flare to it.
Edie makes a second appearance in an outfit she wore, I believe, to a pre-Emmy party the night before the awards. That this is "better" than her actual look says a lot to me. Still dont like the hair at all. And I love a mermaid braid.
Alex looks okay in this but it's just so goddamn boring. Boring, boring. I chose this particular picture because of the shot of her heels, which I love. That's about it. Nice hair, though.
Julianne here is very pretty. Just... so dated. So so so dated. The colour is gorgeous on her and the fit is okay (although [and this could be the angle] does this dress make her look hip-y? Which she is SO NOT and that's why I thought this could be a problem) but wow. It feels so damn old.
Lily Rabe here is also gorgeous. I liked her look from American Horror Story and she's okay. But this is shapeless and her hair is the blahs. She looks kinda like the youngest kid from Malcolm in the Middle if you stare at her face long enough. Not good.
Amanda Peet is SO GODDAMN BORING ON THE RED CARPET. Seriously, lady. Seriously!
The only thing I know about this actress (well, two things) is that she's on New Girl and she's Canadian. I think (1.5 things?). I loved the yellows and bright colours on the red carpet this year but this wasn't one of them. I just find that strap there completely unnecessary and stupid. It's clearly not holding anything up and just... UGH. I wish it would have crossed over her chest or something. Appeared to have done something. Also, the weird transparency thing near her crotch area is off-putting. Either put a better slit there for the leg to pop out or make it all the same transparency because it looks like a mistake or like she ripped the dress or something.
I don't think I like her bangs, either.
Boring, boring, boring, snooze, boring. None of these ladies look BAD (although Cat Deely's dress isn't doing her any favours) but holy shit they're all so FUCKING BORING. I think Cat's is the most offensive to me because it's outdated and illfitting. It looks wrinkled and twisted and created improperly. I think the best of the four is Maria's, only because the colour saves it. Anna's doesn't need the train and Emmanuelle's looks like it's tattered or something.
All snoozefests. All. I prefer Sarah as a blonde. Martha's looks too big and bunchy or something. Shannon's just looks sad. Sarah H is probably the best but that style of dress is, again, tired and old.
There's really nothing wrong with any of these, they're just not show stoppers or WOW moments. I love glitter as much as the next person (in fact, our editor told me I'm one giant sequin on Friday) but this one on Jane isn't anything special. I really like the pattern and colour of Juliana's but it looks very heavy and hot. Too much. I don't get why people say January Jones is so fashionable and shit. This doesn't really look like anything awesome and that little bit of hair by her ear has been DRIVING ME CRAZY. I do kinda like the skirt of the dress and how it swirls about but that doesn't rank it any higher for me.
Jennifer Morrison's dress here is in a totally WOW colour. But how pedestrian is that cut and style? In the close ups it doesn't even look particularly well made. I don't know if a colour is enough for a dress (well, I can answer that, yes) but when it's on such a generic cut and style it loses a lot of its potential. She looks good, though.
As far as Emily's goes, would have been way better in a colour. Could you imagine this in the blue of Jane Levy's dress? It would be AMAZING! I do like the dress in the second photo I chose of her, with her turned away because you can see how sneaky some of the layering is. Had I only looked at the face-on photos I would have missed that. Doesn't make it an OMG dress but jazzes up the potential.
I've never been too much of a fan of Elisabeth Moss' looks because she's been really dowdy and frumpy but since she cut and dyed her hair she's been trying new things and spicing up her wardrobe. I don't think she needs to be a sexpot but it's amazing how something that fits properly can make a person explode out of their same-old, same-old. Like
here. This is all bunchy and overly patterned and there's just TOO MUCH of it. Also, shoes. SHOES. Blech.
Glen Close here doesn't look too bad but I was mostly put off by the fabric crisscrossing her chest. It's so loose and looks tacked on and flimsy. In close ups it doesn't look any better, either. Actually it looks like a hot mess. Over designed & very busy.
I was apparently so bored by Lily Rabe's outfit that I put her in here twice. No better.
Kate Mara is gorgeous and the colouring of this dress is, too. But the actual dress is a snooze. I can't get my eyes to focus on it long enough to enjoy the little details of it.
Giuliana isn't much better but at least she played it safe? It's a little black dress but it has a little jazz to it with the different collar. Eh.
I should have reversed these photos or done something akin to The Fug Girls' scrolldown fug or something. Because up top Olivia Munn's got it going on. Then you look down and it just kinda... ends. At her feet. This is like mistress' dress to her affair's funeral, for reals. She's got the Emmys 2012 favourite accessory up top and NOTHIN' down below. The dress isn't even an INTERESTING one. In the close ups that panel across her boobs doesn't look made well and the edge is a unfinished or something, I dunno.
Another BOOBIES! moment. At least Morena's here has something more going on down a little more. I like her better with longer hair, for sure. Wasn't a fan of that alien cut she had.
I wasn't a fan of Lucy's actual Emmys look. There was nothing wrong with it, it just didn't do anything for me. She looks like a flat disco ball. Although props for keeping everything else simple because that dress is more than enough. I heard some people comment that it was kinda see through on stage and stuff? Looks okay here, I think? I don't know which dress I like more/less, though. I like her LOOK better in her after outfit but I don't think I like the top. Love the skirt, though. I dunno.
Hi-Den Pan-My-Terry! (that's how I say her name every time I see it after something I read on the interwebs years ago and I refuse to learn the proper way). Anyway. This is a very pretty dress, for sure, but as soon as I saw it I thought that the blue fabric over that gold was something hastily tacked on at the end. I can't tell if it was the original design or if it WAS added on for modesty or something but I would have loved to have seen her in the gold underneath. I think she should also stick to maybe not longer dresses. I don't know, her body type isn't the easiest to dress. she looks good, at any rate.
I almost put Mayim here in the "ehhhhh" category just because the dress wasn't an OMG WOW sort of thing but I love her hair and that colour IS STUNNING on her. The only beef I have with it is that the necklace should have either been left at home in exchange for some hot-ass earrings with bling or it needs to be straightened out.
I wish I could have seen another of Ariel Winter's dress because it looks shiny or something, I can't tell. Either way she is SO GORGEOUS and I'm jealous because at 15 I was NOT like that.
I think Julia is usually in black, right? So kudos to her for going with colour! It goes along with her Emmy quite nicely!
Ashlee is here pretty much because of her hair, ngl. I think it's so cute. Her dress is okay, although it's no different than Kristen or Amanda's (well, maybe a little better than Amanda's).
Maybe it's just this particular shot of Zooey that made me put her on this list but she looks so pretty and that colour looks amazing against her ALABASTER SKIN AND DARK HAIR AND PALE EYES, NO I'M NOT JEALOUS.
I already mentioned Tina Fey, back with Kristen Wigg, because Tina clearly went ALL OUT for tonight. She looks amazing and that dress is MAGIC on her. Awesome neck (boob?) line, perfect colour, great hair. Everything!
Sarah's second look of the night was way better than the colourless thing she was wearing at the awards. I mean, this is technically colourless, too, but at least it's got some depth to it and it's shorter. I don't like the hair, though. It's too... young, I guess. I know she IS young but she's in her 20's. Jazz things up a bit!
Okay. Connie Britton. I just, I can't. She's a GORGEOUS lady. GORGEOUS. Why does she have 1950's housewife hair? Let that shit fly free, lady1 The dress isn't bad, I guess, but I've seen her in better. This accentuates her awesome upper body well but it's just not THE BEST on her.
Jane Levy's dress colour is AMAZING on her. AMAZING. This is the colour that Emily VanCamp's dress SHOULD have been in. But the dress itself is so freaking boring and dullsville. This silhouette and shape has been played out so many times. I get she's new to this whole thing, though, so she was probably just trying to find something she liked that felt comfortable but come on! With that colour she could wear a paper bag and it would look good on her.
Kaley is here because she looks good for once. I love her but holy shit, girl, you have the worst red carpet fashion sense. This colour is spot on, looks awesome on her and the dress isn't a train wreck! Congrats! The hair could use a little work but BABY STEPS! The colour is the best!
Heidi here looks awesome. She looks effortless and stuff. The colour is awesome on her and she truly is a glamazon. I guess I'm a touch put off by the bottom. There's a weird triangle panel under some of the sheer that you can see right around her belly/crotch are that's a bit disconcerting and I can't help but think that the way the fabric is gathering between her legs makes it look like a sumo thing, or a diaper. Know what I mean? Gorgeous woman, great look, but just not there. Almost TOO sexy to the point of going in the opposite direction for me.
I love Leslie Mann. I think she's adorable, even if I did end up hating her at the end of Funny People because her character was selfish and that movie was at least a half hour too long. This is kinda dated, really, but it's so bright and cheerful and she looks good in it. I love the pop of turquoise with her earrings, too. Good stuff.
I don't care if Nicole's face can't move, I think she's kinda come to a good place in her life and I'm happy for her. This dress was also awesome on her and I loved the bead work. It looks so pretty next to the white and it's appropriate but still kinda casual?
Melissa Rauch here almost went into the "Yeah, okay" group but the more I looked at the second photo in particular the more I LOVE this dress. It not only looks flawless on her but the actual design is amazing. I love the folds at her waist and it's just the right proportion on her. Great hair, simple makeup, bare essentials jewellery and overall a lovely look. JEALOUS.
Kat Dennings was also almost a "Yeah, okay" but the more I looked at her photos, as well, the more I liked this. BOOBS galore but they work for her. Her hair is so perfect and she's just so basic in this but TREMENDOUS all at once. She's awesome and so is this look. Also, she's dating Nick Zano so JEALOUS AGAIN.
Of COURSE Sofia Veraga would be in this! It's sexy, it's low and high and slinky and sparkly and she SPLIT HER ASS SO HER CHEEKS LOOKED LIKE MORE BOOBS--and she WORKS IT. She's fine and so is this. The only thing I don't like is that keyhole right under her boobs.
Out of these four looks Christine Baranski takes the cake. she might be my favourite look of the whole night, to be honest. This is PERFECT for her. I wish I had more pics of her from last night.
Amy's here because holy breakup boobs. I don't' think I've ever seen her in something like this before.
Kelly is here because I don't give a fuck and her hair matched her dress and she looks hot and slim and she's working that prom dress look.
Padma (????) is here because holy hotness in tangerine and that colour and WOW.
THIS. This is how you do a simple boring dress and make it amazing. I don't know if Juliane Moore has ever looked bad in her whole life but when you've got flawless fashion sense it doesn't matter if you do. This is just perfection.
I LOVE the simplicity of this dress. I stared at the bodice for a while, figuring out how the straps wove into the fabric, and it's all so lovely. Don't know if I like the basicness of her hair but I don't care, that dress is perfect enough. Love that leg and the sexy strap of her show and how GORG this looks overall. Great colour, cut & all.
I think everyone ever needs to get off Modern Family's dick and I pretty much think Julie Bowen here is a couple eggs short of a dozen but this dress is awesome and looks great on her. A little too much fabric at the bottom but you could pretty much puke chartreuse and I'd think it was the best thing ever.
I don't care, I like this. It's simple and shit but Claire is WORKIN' it. She looks gorgeous and comfortable and she's got a motherfucking Emmy now that she accepted in that thing so I don't even care. I like it.
