What is Relay for Life?

Hey Everyone,

Maybe this is your first time hearing me talk about  Relay for Life. More then likely it's about your billionth, either way, I am here again to remind you of the importance of Relay for Life.

Every day people hear the words, "You have cancer." A very good friend's father heard these words just a matter of weeks ago. Since his diagnosis, the families lives have been changed. This family needs your help, they need you to help find a cure. Some day we must live in a world that no one else will hear those words.

Some of you have contacted me with questions about what exactly Relay for Life is. I would like to answer that.

Relay began 25 years ago when Dr. Gordy Klatt pledged to run for 24 hours to bring cancer awareness to the for front of people's minds. The next year Dr. Klatt invited teams to join him, making it the first Relay for Life. Relay for life is now the most successful grass roots movement in the world. Raising over 3 Billion Dollars for Cancer Research, Advocacy, Education, and Services. You don't have to be a marathon runner to participate, just someone who wants to take action to fight this disease.

You should be advised that, NO athletic experience or skill is needed. Relay is just a BIG party in which we

Celebrate, the advancement and the cure of this disease,
Remember those who we have lost, and
Fight Back, so we never have to lose anyone else.

Relay for Life, the event is really more like a big block party. We "Relay" by asking at least one member from each team to be walking the track though out the entire event. As the event runs over night we bring in Bands, Performers, and Entertainers, to keep people awake. We have food tents, smores, pizza, and coffee. This year we are expecting more then 14 hundred people to attend the Relay in South Portland.

Now most of you on this list have been to a Relay, I would love some feed back. If you have something you would like to share to either people who have never Relayed, or even to people who have. Reply to me and I will pass it on!

I am not sure if i will send out another e mail before the holidays, but please know, I love each one of you. The impact you have had on my life has been truly a gift. Thank you each so much for all of the blessings you have bestowed to myself and my family.

Countless Blessings, Countless Thanks
