it has been impossible to find time to quilt.
After I got my quilt off the floor, Friday I got the trestles I wanted for a door I had to make a large table (30 in X 80 in). I got the trestles from Ikea and they are awesome. They pack them so small and tight in a box with very little packaging to make it cheaper to ship and to ship more. Then you put them together and they magically expand to make these nice sturdy trestles that are height adjustable and can also be set so the table top is at an incline. And they have a storage shelf underneath. I was afraid they didn't come with the hardware to attach the top because the tops are sold separately but Ikea included them for 2 setups and 3 types of tops: solid tops, box type tops (like my core door) and glass tops or tops that will not be set at an incline. The height is adjustable to over 36 in and the top can come right off for storage. I have it setup now behind my quilting machine to support the quilt but I can see pulling it out when I'm done so I can cut standing up at a comfortable height.
Here's a crappy phone pic with too much sun:
That's a North facing window, I don't know how so much sun was coming in. I filled under the table with my bins of fabric and other sewing stuff. I love the space! It feels so great and creative.
My thread was delivered by mail on Thursday. I didn't find out until Saturday because when I first called FedEx that's when they said it would be delivered. So it had been sitting in my mailbox until Saturday afternoon. I was irritated but I have survived. I'll post about the thread separately, maybe tomorrow when I need a break from quilting. So far, I really like it for quilting.
So Saturday I started quilting the quilt. I got it all shoved in my machine and it fit very well. The Necchi BU quilts like it's going through butter. My lines however have a lot of room for improvement. I am quilting it in the ditch but I decided to use my machine quilting foot so I could gain the practice. I think I'm going to have to go back and rip out the middle and re-quilt it once I have more practice but I'm not sure because I know my son isn't going to be that picky about it. I was very excited and it's wonderful to have such a nice setup and a great machine.
Sunday my son was throwing up all day. Yuck but that's what you gotta deal with when you're the Mom. No quilting done.
Monday, today, the son was feeling good but we had to catch up with what didn't get done yesterday, shopping, cleaning, laundry. We went to JoAnn's and I got a few of Simplicity's new patterns for only $1 each. I collect sewing patterns. Whenever they're $1 or $2, I stock up on a lot of basics or craft patterns. They had this new cute one of fruit and stuff that my daughter wanted so I got that one, one for a mug organizer (like the bucket ones), an amazing fit jacket, a new shirt pattern and one for a Wii and WiiFit accessories. I don't know when I'm going to get to these but they're good to have around. We also went to Micheal's because my daughter had a gift card. Their new bead setup is awesome! She found a lot of great things for her art and jewelry. I also saw that they have the bent quilter's safety pins for half the price than JoAnn's. At JoAnn's I bought a box of 300 #1 pins that were originally $10.99. A deal compared to 50 for about $3.50. I had a 50% off coupon so I got them. Then at Micheal's I saw the exact same pins for $6 a box. If I had had a 40% or 50% coupon for them I would have been kicking myself but at least now I know where to get them next time.
I'm hoping to get to quilting tonight after my son goes to bed but if not, I have almost all day tomorrow. I'll post more in a few days.
